Hard Cover. Condition: Very Good -. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. First Edition. Glossy pictorial hardcover with dust jacket, 104 pages;---author's name printed on free front endpaper in full in pencil, neatly and spaced over braille characters (presumably her name);---book very gently used, tight in binding, just a hint of shelf wear to bottom cover edges, interior very clean and unmarked, but sadly flawed due to years of poor storage by loss of cover lamination (in total roughly 15% of area of covers) from sticking to the inside of the DJ (although, strangely, the DJ is flawless, not a hint of damage inside); DJ is of bright gold foil cardboard without printing, strong and sturdy, but just a fraction smaller than the book and may have not been included with the original publication. This book first appeared in 1900 and consists of 26 chapters of travel writing to palces in Europe, the United States and Canada along with 9 short biographical sketches of men like Field Marshal Lord Roberts and The Right Honourable W.E. Gladstone. Of special interest are the chapters on Canadian cities. Here is a comment on Victoria BC: ".one does not speak of the business of Victoria, but one tries to discover the truth in the Victoria man's boast, that his city is the most beautiful residential spot in all Canada. One would wish that Chinatown were not so large an element in the popularion of the city and that the Celestial were more amenable to Euroepan habits of life. One sees the real live joss-house here and might fancy himself in Tien-tsin or any other Chinese city." (1.6 JM HOQ 100/b4 Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
