Hardcover. First Edition [1979], so stated. First Edition [1979], so stated. Very Good+ in Very Good+ DJ: Both book and DJ show indications of very careful use. The Book shows just a touch of wear to extremities; an extremely thin line of sunning at the top edge of the panels; a former bookseller's pencil price has been partially erased at the upper corner of the front free endpaper; the binding is square and secure; the text is clean. Former owner's name in small letters at the upper corner of the front endpaper. Free of other ownership dates, addresses, notations, inscriptions, stamps, or labels. The DJ shows only a touch of wear to the outside edges: a couple of tiny nicks at the head of the front hinge and backstrip; a half-inch tear at the top of the rear panel; else only very mild rubbing; the price, however, has been clipped; mylar-protected. Overall, remains a handsome, lightly used copy with some minor flaws in a like DJ. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. (9.25 x 6.35 x 1.25 inches). xii, 390 pages. Second Edition, Revised and Expanded (1973) ; First Printing thus, so stated. Trade Paperback. Sir Roland Algernon Penrose (1900 1984) was an English artist, historian and poet. He was a major promoter and collector of modern art and an associate of the surrealists in the United Kingdom. His bold and enigmatic paintings, drawings and objects are some of the most enduring images of the surrealist movement. His postcard collages, examples of which are found in major national collections across Britain. He was awarded the CBE in 1960 and he was knighted for his services to the visual arts in 1966. This work offers lots of great details backed up by Penrose's first-hand observation and knowledge. Penrose was a close friend of Picasso from 1935 until the latter's death in 1973. The friendship between the two comes through without Penrose letting it cloud his acute professional observations. Must-have reference for serious Picasso fans. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; xv, 518 pages. pages 2nd Edition, Revised; 1st Printing 1st Printing Thus.
