The map focuses on the city of Amoy (here spelled Emowi), or modern day Xiamen. Being primarily a nautical chart, the map offers limited inland detail, but the city of Amoy (Xiamen), as well as adjacent points of interest including fortifications, palaces, pagodas, and nearby cities, are rendered pictorially. On the island itself a large mountain, most likely Xianyue Mountain, with a tower, is depicted. Xiamen or Amoy was a place of exceptional interest to European traders as China's main port for the export of tea.

It is located on the southern tip of the island of Kyushu.The city has been known since the 8th century. Kagoshima was the city where Francisco de Xavier went ashore on August 15, 1549. In 1863, the Namamugi incident occurred, in which the English admiral Kuper bombarded the city in retaliation for the murder of the merchant Richardson. The Shimazu clan was one of the major opponents of the Tokugawa and, after the Meiji restoration, provided important politicians, including: a. Saig_ Takamori and _kubo Toshimichi. In 1877 the city became the center of the Satsuma rebellion. After eight months of fighting, the city was almost completely burned down, and the castle was also destroyed. Saigo, the leader of the rebellion, committed suicide.
