Basil Montagu was " on intimate terms with Wordsworth and Coleridge." His first son, Edward, lived with Wordsworth as a boy, and " is mentioned in Wordsworth s lines To my Sister and Anecdotes for Fathers ." Montagu s third wife, maide, 1881

The letters in this volume, written between 1825 and 1830, are not printed in Carlyle s "Early Letters" (1886) nor his "Letters 1826-1836", both issued by Macmillan. Some wear, a Very Good copy.
