Published just after his death in Sept 1957, Haakon VII was the first King of Norway after the separation from Sweden. He was a beloved monarch and a symbol of resistance against Nazi tyrany. Haakon is regarded as one of the greatest Norwegians of the twentieth century and is particularly revered for his courage during the German invasion and his leadership and preservation of Norwegian unity during the Nazi occupation.
