Colour pictorial folding map, inset of Alaska, chronological charts, 43 x 63cm. Two tiny holes along one fold near lower edge causing very minor loss of text, still a very good copy. This fascinating colour pictorial map of the USA was published in 1949 and issued as a supplement to Shonen (Boys' Magazine) and Shojo (Girls' Magazine) as an adjunct to children's social studies education. The map's motivating subtitle "The United States, a Wealthy, Peaceful and Democratic Country" reflects the message widely spread during Occupation. The dominant presence of the United States and its soldiers motivating Japanese people to learn more about the USA. The map shows major cities and railway networks as well as main agricultural produce and natural resources. An historical chart covers the period between1492 and 1945 and a list of US presidents is also given.
