In order to accomplish the fundamentals of music such as pitch, tone, and rhythm at the beginning stage rather than teaching them in the private lesson together with the instrumental technique, the instructional package was integrated with general music teaching. The population was given the private violin lessons and general music group lessons with the researcher for 12 weeks. The population in this study was 28 students between six to twelve years old who had never studied playing violin before. After 12 weeks of instruction, the data from formative evaluations, summative evaluation and the students attitude evaluation forms were collected for statistical analysis. It was found that the violin instructional package had an efficiency of 95.83/97.5 which was higher than the expected efficiency of 80/80. In addition, the participants expressed a positive attitude towards the instructional package. 120 pp. Englisch.

This examination uses the work of Michel Foucault as a means to understand the importance of control for Nauman and to suggest Foucault s influence on Nauman. 76 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This thesis introduces a special form of pseudopassive that differs from previously discussed forms in that it includes a direct object adjacent to the verb. It is shown that the direct object position in this construction is restricted to NPs that lack D(eterminer)-level projections. As a result, the direct object can only receive a non- specific interpretation, resists certain types of modification, extraction, and scope interactions. These constructions are newly termed pseudo- incorporated pseudopassives (PIPPs), foreshadowing the analysis that I come to posit. English PIPPs are compared with similar sentences involving non-specific objects identified across a variety of languages, and previous analyses of these constructions are discussed. A novel analysis for the English pseudo-incorporated pseudopassive is suggested which targets both the syntactic and semantic aspects of this curious utterance. 64 pp. Englisch.

After reading Miyamoto and Schwarz (2006)'s assumption that 'cultural goups who are particularly sensitive to the value of maintaining relationship, have difficulties in using answering machine' I then decided to attempt to ascertain whether there are specific differences in using recorded messaging among the various South African language groups that relate to either the conveying information or the establishing of a communicative relationship. This book considers how technological intervention may affect features of the primary mode of communication, i.e. it investigates whether spoken language transmitted by answering machine is significantly different in its function, than when the transmission is face to face and immediate, with the aim of finding out, whether people of different linguistic cultures react differently to new technologies such as answering machine. This book should be useful in intercultural communication, linguistic, cultural studies and related areas.Conversation analysis was used for analyzing speech samples. 104 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This book deals with one of the essential aspects of classroom discourse analysis: feedback in the teacher-student exchange. We first offer a theoretical background describing some important aspects such as the different approaches to discourse analysis and the characteristics of classroom discourse. We then examine several studies published in relation to correction. In the research part we describe the subjects of the study: six lessons were audiotaped in two different schools, at two different levels and with teachers who had different characteristics. We show the results concerning aspects such as the length of the corrective exchanges, the types of errors and corrections, and the acceptance of teacher s correction on the part of students. Our study of the incidence of error and correction should help shed some light on the field of language teaching and learning and leads us to adopt a positive attitude towards students mistakes. The analysis should be especially useful to professionals in the educational field and researchers in discourse analysis. 100 pp. Englisch.

It is undoubtly a grand and complex story. However, its simple theme of good and evil has aroused my curiosity to find out how Gandalf, Saruman, Frodo, and Boromir's motives reveal their good or evil action seen from their decisions making in The fellowship of the ring, the first book of the trilogy. In this study, I analyze their conflicts with the aid of literary theories of conflict and characterization. In addition, I also use the help of psychological and ethical theories to understand the characters motives in making certain decisions and their tendency to reveal good or evil action. 64 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Consistently, attention to romantic alternatives has been linked to levels of commitment among couples. With the advent of Internet dating, it is necessary to extend current theories of commitment into the realm of online relationships. Specifically, it is important to detect any differences between Internet and traditional daters on levels of commitment, and, more importantly, on attention to romantic alternatives. Given the paucity of research on this topic, it is essential to understand this phenomenon better. This book, therefore, provides a unique look into the relationships of traditional and online daters and how each dating modality affects the respective relationships. This was accomplished by comparing traditional and online relationships across a variety of self-report measures. This analysis should help shed light on the future of dating and the type of impact it will have on the fundamental nature of romantic relationships and should be especially useful to professionals in Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, any other field that studies romantic relationships, as well as purveyors and utilizers of Internet dating sites. 72 pp. Englisch.

The course, titled Interaction Design, was taught and devised by Louise St. Pierre, an Associate Professor of Industrial Design. The purpose of the course was to learn and apply co-creation as a method for both graphic and industrial design students. Her main question while researching the classroom was whether primary research (such as co-creation) could create new avenues to inspire the designer s creative process; and if these personal connections could be transferred onto the design itself. In other words, to see if the designer felt compelled to create design solutions that directly reflected his/her specific audience. 92 pp. Englisch.

The primary sources for this study come from pieces of legislation passed by the state legislature and the minutes of the California Curriculum Commission and other governmental committees. There are a series of conclusions drawn by this author. The first one involves the role of the state legislature in using the history curriculum to shape the national identity and collective memory of the state's students. Second, the decentralized nature of education policy in American history has allowed several different groups opportunities to influence the curriculum. Third, the history curriculum competed with the social studies movement of the early twentieth century leading to a curricular struggle between learning history and becoming a good citizen. Fourth, the history profession itself has not aggressively sought inclusion in the development of the Frameworks and Standards, allowing other non-academic groups a disproportional influence in the development of the history curriculum. 112 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Following the publication of 'A Nation At Risk' in 1983 by National Commission on Excellence in Education, school districts came under increased public demand for greater educational performance. Olson and Gerald (1998)noted that 'when people talk about the problems in public education, they're usually not talking about suburbs or small towns. They're talking about big-city schools--specially the ones that serve poor children.' In response, many superintendents were persuaded by two leading professional bodies: Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) and the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) to embrace strategic planning. For more than 20 years, the focus of research was on district strategic planning processes and planning participants' attitudes and experiences. No study could be found that examined the content of district strategy and its relationship to performance. Organizational strategy is quite easily the most overlooked concept in the management of school districts. Strategy is the organizational DNA; the genetic force behind organizational behavior and performance. This study fills the gap in the district strategy knowledge base. 112 pp. Englisch.

It focuses on particular works, movements and styles from modern art. The rest of the thesis studies contemporary art works in three groups which are defined according to the disposition of the relationships of art and domestic suggested by those works. This categorization is mainly to propose ways to trace this relationship among the heterogeneity of genres and interests of post-1960s art productions. The thesis attempts to argue that the relationships between art and the domestic is characterised by displacements of the referential frames within which these terms are usually defined and understood. 104 pp. Englisch.

Allowing the fear of new technology to create a taboo will not protect the art of dance performance, it will condemn it to becoming an obscure pastime. Dance has often been qualified as a fleeting choreographic image, and traditionalists fear that by capturing or re-imaging dance, technology destroys the original work. In fact, the re-creation of an image is an integral part of human perception. Technology modifies an image in translation, but does not inevitably destroy the original image or its message. By embracing technology, choreographers can ensure that technology archives and enhances their work in keeping with their choreographic intention. The craft of performance and dance will continue to harness the ever-improving digital horizons, and the technology will demand that viewers expand their scope of artistic categorization and abilities to perceive in differing and multiple simultaneous formats. 100 pp. Englisch.

A first main task of this reconstruction is to provide a clarification of the content and functions of li ( ). A second primary goal of the reconstruction is to discuss the roles and functions of the moral sage or morally superior person, junzi ( ), in Xunzi s account of moral practice. The figure of the sage is important in explaining the rationale of li and exemplifying how to behave in accordance with the rules of proper conduct in different situations. As truth is essential to knowledge, it is crucial to understand how moral belief can be truth-apt within Xunzian theory. To that end,the doctrine is reinterpreted in terms of Railton s subjective naturalism. In the literature on Xunzi s moral thought, the problem of the cognitive status of moral judgment has been neglected, and this book attempts to remedy this oversight. 88 pp. Englisch.

Termed negative priming, this effect is believed to mark the after effect of an inhibitory component of selective attention. Consistently observed in adults, evidence for negative priming in children is tenuous. In this study, it was argued that distractor inhibition in children may be more likely to appear in contexts where anticipated selection difficulty is thoroughly and consistently maintained. Results from three experiments examining negative priming effects in children aged 5 to 12 years were consistent with this hypothesis. Intact negative priming was observed in even the youngest children, with no age- related differences apparent. Moreover, and similar to adults, negative priming was produced for a range of stimuli including familiar, novel and 3-D impossibly shaped items. Some evidence for long-term negative priming effects was also obtained for the oldest children. To conclude, the present study provides compelling evidence to indicate that the inhibitory component of selective attention matures early. 92 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -The resurrection of ancient Hebrew and its transformation to a Modern Language is unparalled in linguistic history. Almost unaided, and without precedent, Eliezer Ben Yehuda (1858-1922), known as the father of spoken Hebrew, initiated the revival of Classical Hebrew; a language which for 2,000 years had not been spoken as a vernacular. Affected by a time of national turmoil throughout Europe, Ben Yehuda developed the idea that the key to Jewish national entity was the revival of the Jewish people on their ancestral soil via their ancestral language, Hebrew. While still in Europe he wrote about uniting the Jewish People using the Hebrew Language as a common tongue. He felt that having their own language would be a unifying force for all Jews, impeding future assimilation and ultimate annihilation. This idea was furthered by his own immigration to the Holy Land and his work toward the revival of the Hebrew language and culture there. The unprecedented success of the revival of Modern Hebrew will interest anyone who cares about language development and the impact one person can have as its ardent pioneer. 92 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -People in general assume that in learning a foreign language, fluency is more important than accuracy. This view often urges language learners to think that perfecting sentence structure and comprehending vocabulary are more important than learning how native speakers articulate words, and leads them to generate errors in the articulation of the language's speech sounds. However, precision in pronouncing words is especially essential for language learners, and English, in terms of pronounciation, is the most difficult language to master. This book, therefore, studies English phonological errors produced by English language learners. To be specific, it analyzes the phonological errors made by English Department students of Petra Christian University with the six English consonantal sound that do not exist in Indonesian phonetics system; [v], [ ], [ð], [ ], [d ], and [t ], as the main focus. The analysis should be useful for further research in the area of articulatory phonetics, and should be essentially helpful for English language learners and teachers, especially those whose mother tongue are not English, to understand the basic mistakes in pronunciation. 108 pp. Englisch.

One of the aims of the study was to identify factors which may adversely contribute to the negative affect and poorer performance of boys in comparison to girls in the domain of writing. The results indicated that there are some gender differences with boys displaying more negative attitudes to writing and less enjoyment of writing as a classroom activity. Gender differences were also indicated in terms of the writing genres boys and girls prefer to engage in. The most interesting finding was that whilst the students did not perceive writing to be an inherently masculine or feminie activiy, they did indicate an awareness of differential outcomes for boys' and girls' writing in the way that their respective preferred genres were regarded and valued both within the classroom and beyond. The idea that writing has a pedagogical and ideological bias that favours girls more than boys is therefore posed. 100 pp. Englisch.

The students, who led the independence movements and later became leaders of the country, appear to have possessed a strong will to establish their own country and to provide better conditions for their people. The major intention of this book is to clarify how the East Pakistani intellectuals, especially the students, struggled to acquire their national identity as Bangladeshis. In the political movements conducted by politicians, intellectuals and students, the students showed their ability and capability to become leaders of the society. They had a clear consciousness as elites and strong motivation for participating political activities. This historical study reveals that many students coming from the middle-class background (i.e., vernacular elite) were concerned with the improvement of life among the whole entire population of East Pakistan. This book is highly relevant for researchers and students who are interested in politics of education in developing countries, particularly in South Asia. 200 pp. Englisch.

The difficulty of testing a team learning model with newly formed vs. intact teams is discussed. The importance of individual differences, or a personality variable, is discussed as a potential covariate in a model of team learning. More research is needed to determine the necessary environmental and personality influences that create an abundance of Team Learning Behaviors. Once again, schools have a major role to play in this process of adaptation. Global education has been promoted by many people to meet this challenge. They have been calling for a global dimension in the education of students and teachers but the questions of practice are still challenging, especially in the area of teacher education. Schools cannot prepare students capable of living successfully in a global age without the abilities and efforts of teachers to turn goals into meaningful learning experiences for students. The purpose of this book was to review the selected literature and determine the status of global education in the United States. The impact of the study was to enhance awareness for the need to include global education both in the school curriculum and in teacher training programs. Teachers in America should receive global education training through preservice and inservice programs. This book should be helpful to policy makers, school administrators, and global educators. 64 pp. Englisch.

The book 'De-constructing the Digital Revolution', explores how a new popular term digital revolution has been emerged, transformed and vacuumed to satisfy rising demands for a new Utopia, right at the turn of the second millenium. The author Genco Gulan deconstruct the term, and bring examples with an interdisciplinary approach from; visual art, politics, popular culture, history and even genetics. Gulan tries to present how an anti-systemic term 'revolution' could became systemic. The book De-constructing the Digital Revolution conclude that the developments in new technology should not only be sought regarding to its material(ist) reflections but also in its power for de-materialization. Hence a possible change (the next evolution) rather should be sought within in its own dynamics, through a new (electronic) theory. 88 pp. Englisch.

Faster separation and higher efficiency are required to meet ever-growing demands. Despite numerous efforts on improving mass transfer in particulate packings discontinuity seems to be the cornerstone. Macroporous continuous beds or monoliths are, therefore, a promising alternative to the particle medium. The work deals with the preparation of new monoliths used as support for HPLC stationary phase. Two different approaches were developed: one based on the polycondensation of epoxy resins which were dispersed in aqueous polyamine phase with the aid of a surfactant. The other involved a traverse of linear polyamides solutions around their upper critical solution temperatures (UCST). The polymers, dissolved in a solvent at temperatures higher than their UCSTs followed by slow cooling to below these temperatures to precipitate the polymers. Partly re-established hydrogen bonds resulted in the formation of crystallites that interconnected into a network structure. The study also deals with surface modifying for chromatographic applications. 108 pp. Englisch.

I can use a gauge condition to select a preferred orthonormal frame for some gravitational systems. The gauge condition selects a special orthonormal frame (SOF). This special orthonormal frame has application in particular to a positive energy proof and energy localization for a gravitational system. The gauge condition is related to the solution of the Dirac equation; by solving the Dirac equation we can determine a special orthonormal frame. The deep connection between the first two of these concepts has long been known. The aim of this text is to provide an introduction to the modern techniques of AC- operators and prespectral operators in spectral theory. Topics include the basic results of AC- operators and prespectral operators on Banach spaces and the application of spectral theory on c -algebras. Much of the subject matter, particularly with respect to AC- operators, prespectral operators, and c -algebras, is comprised of new results. 112 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This book offers a new approach to control design for DC converter-based power distribution systems, which are an attractive alternative to AC power distribution due to flexible power sharing and nearly instantaneous reconfiguration; a decrease of overall system cost and weight; and an increase of reliability. The Synergetic Control Theory offers solutions to such challenges of control design as nonlinearity, multi-connectivity, and high-dimensionality of these systems. This control design uses an analytical procedure to shift the focus of the designer from analysis of the closed loop system behavior to synthesis of the specified behavior of the system by constructing invariant-manifolds. Contraction of the state space allows to evaluate stability conditions of the high order systems. The resulting control laws ensure global or semi-global stability of the system and improve transient response and performance of the system. This work illustrates application of Synergetic Control Theory for DC autonomous power distribution systems, which, as a result, fully utilize capacity for flexible power sharing and nearly instantaneous reconfiguration. 104 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Current Semantic Web reasoning systems do not scale to the requirements of their promising and interesting applications such as analyzing data from millions of mobile devices, dealing with terabytes of scientific data, and content management in enterprises with thousands of knowledge workers. Therefore, a novel approach is required that goes beyond the current paradigms strictly based on logic: a possible approach is Stream Reasoning, an unexplored yet potentially high impact research area, arising from the application of certain results obtained by the Data Streams community to the Semantic Web and reasoning domains. Aim of this book is to present C-SPARQL, a new language that builds on top of SPARQL adding support for RDF streams and SQL-like aggregates, which represent a first step toward Stream Reasoning and a new paradigm of reasoning. 92 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Cardiovascular diseases are an important cause of mortality worldwide. They are an entity of diseases of the heart and vasculature, mainly caused by atherosclerosis. In atherosclerosis, cholesterol accumulates in the vessel wall, mainly in the form of low-density lipoprotein (LDL). High-density lipoprotein (HDL) protects against atherosclerosis, as HDL particles accept cellular cholesterol and transport it to the liver for excretion in a process called reverse cholesterol transport (RCT). Phospholipid transfer protein (PLTP) and cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) are two key lipid transfer proteins responsible for the remodeling of HDL particles. The aim of this thesis was to clarify the role of PLTP and CETP in RCT. The results indicate that both PLTP and CETP can remodel HDL as a cholesterol acceptor, which affects the removal of cholesterol from foam cells. This thesis is useful to anyone interested in lipid metabolism. It gives the reader a basic knowledge about the development of atherosclerosis and factors affecting that. It is also useful to professionals giving also a deeper insight to the world of lipid metabolism. 112 pp. Englisch.
