Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 193 pp. Papers from a Library Administration and Management Association Buildings and Equipment Section, Preconference at the 1984 American Libary Association Annual Conference, Dallas, Texas. Usual ex-library markings. Laminated cover. "The articles contained herein have been contributed by librarians, many of whom are active consultants on library architectural design. One contributor is an architect who has worked on several library building projects. These essays are primarily directed toward librarians who are just beginning to learn about library design. Carmack and Holt discuss how to determine whether a new library is needed, or whether some other solution is feasible, such as an addition, remodeling, or renovation. Teams of planners are necessary in planning a library, and Novak descibes and explains them, while Beckman writes about the need for a library building consultant to assist librarians. One can do a lot of planning, but nothing will come of it until decisions are made, and this aspect is discussed by Clemmer. The written building program is the heart of any plan for a new or expanded library building. Snowball and Holt tell what is included in a good program. What is the role of the architect and what does he/she do? McAdams and O'Brien provide the answers. The subject of architectural drawings in their various manifestations is treated by Waters, C. Smith, and Kelsey. In the last three essays, L. Smith provides an overview of the complex subject of lighting and air conditioning, Novak describes an interesting type of collaboration between architect and builder, while Kaser ponders the cultural gap when an American library consultant goes abroad to advise on library design.".
