Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. The twenty-three volumes of the Morland Dynasty series has been completely repackaged in the most elegant style, using contemporaneous artwork for each period. This wonderful series opens with the back drop of the Wars of the Roses with the marriage between Eleanor Morland and a scion of the influential house of Beaufort. It is a union which establishes the powerful Morland dynasty and in the succeeding volumes of this rich tapestry of English life, we follow their fortunes through war and peace, political upheaval and social revolution, times of pestilence and periods of plenty, and through the vicissitudes which afflict every family - love and passion, envy and betrayal, birth and death, great fortune and miserable penury. The Morland Dynasty is entertainment of the most addictive kind. In the Morland Dynasty series, the majestic sweep of English history is richly and movingly portrayed through the fictional lives of the Morland family. It is 1434, and seeking power and prestige, ambitious Yorkshireman Edward Morland arranges a marriage between his meek son Robert and spirited Eleanor, young ward of the influential Beaufort family. Eleanor is appalled at being forced to marry a mere "sheep farmer;" she is, besides, secretly in love with Richard, Duke of York. Yet in time this apparently ill-matched union becomes both passionate and tender, the foundation of the Morland dynasty, and sustains them through bloody civil war which so often divides families, sets neighbor against neighbor, and brings tragedy close to home. Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. John Hare has made three expeditions to the Mongolian and Chinese Gobi deserts, the first in 1993 with Russian scientists and the second and third with Chinese scientists in 1995 and 1996. The book records the amazing adventures he has experienced on those expeditions and will record details of the 30-day walk on foot in the formidable Kum Tagh sand dunes in the spring of 1997. He is the first recorded foreigner to have crossed the Gashun Gobi from north to south. The expeditions were primarily concerned with tracking down the mysterious wild Bactrian camel 'camelus bactrianus ferus' which lives in the heartland of the desert and is the ancestor of all domestic Bactrian stock. There are under a thousand left in the world and the wild Bactrian camel is more endangered than the giant Panda. This is John Hare's magnificent account of a formidable feat of modern exploration. This narrative reveals the author's experiences on three expeditions to the Mongolian and Chinese Gobi Deserts, in search of the mysterious wild Bactrian camel. They include a 30-day walk in the Kum Tagh sand dunes and his experience as the first foreigner to cross the Gashun Gobi from north to south. Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. The Provincial Lady has a nice house, a nice husband (usually asleep behind "The Times"), and nice children. In fact, maintaining Niceness is the Provincial Lady's goal in life—her raison d'etre. She never raises her voice, rarely ventures outside Devon (why would she?), only occasionally allows herself to become vexed by the ongoing servant problem, and would be truly appalled by the confessional mode that has gripped the late 20th century. The Provincial Lady, after all, is part of what made Britain great. * A delightful and witty celebration of the suburban British housewife Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

First edition of this work by Rowling. Octavo, original decorated boards, with illustrations by the winners of The Ickabog Illustration Competition. Signed by J.K. Rowling on the half-title page. With Rowling's hologram opposite her signature. Fine in a fine dust jacket. With the original Foyles bookmark and shopping bag. Rare and desirable signed. Rowling's first children's book since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The Ickabog was first published online in installments between 26 May and 10 July 2020. Rowling stated, "Iāve decided to publish The Ickabog for free online, so children on lockdown, or even those back at school during these strange, unsettling times, can read it or have it read to them." She simultaneously organized on online illustration competition with ideas for images needed for each chapter of the book, the best of which were printed in the published book. Rowling relays in her preface, "The idea for the Ickabog came to me a long time ago. The word Ickabog derives from 'Ichabod', meaning 'no glory' or 'the glory has departed'. I think you'll understand why I chose the name once you've read the story, which deals with themes that have always interested me. What do the monsters we conjure tell us about ourselves? What must happen for evil to get a grip on a person, or on a country, and what does it take to defeat it? Why do people choose to believe likes even on scant or non-existent evidence?" Upon publication, Rowling announced that she would be donating her net royalties from the book to The Volant Charitable Trust, expected to be equivalent to a minimum of Ā£2.00 for each copy of The Ickabog sold in the UK.
