Loose Broadside. Condition: Fine. Felicia Rice (illustrator). Limited Edition. Loose broadside measuring 12 x 19.25 inches. Printed in several colors on handmade paper. Signed by Felicia Rice in pencil. Of an edition limited to 26 copies, this is hand-numbered copy 19. Rice's response to the Mutanabbi Street bombing in Baghdad that ripped through the city's thousand-year-old book market. Her refined imagery presents the Tigris flowing through the city, with city sectors printed in varying hues, the poem printed in red. In 2007 a car bomb exploded on Bagdad's al-Mutanabbi Street, killing more than 30 people and wounding three or more times that. The historic center of Baghdad bookselling community, the street attracted literary and intellectual activity. Following the barbarous attack, viewed as not just a physical act but an assault on freedom of thought, a call for a response in book form was answered by the fine press and book arts community worldwide. The broadside at hand, exquisite in its restraint and profound in its statement, is one of the more successful examples we've seen. .

Rice, Ray (illustrator). Quarto. (44)pp. One of 70 copies, signed by the author, Francisco X. Alarcón. Forty pen-and-ink drawings by Ray Rice, in his second collaboration with his daughter, Felicia Rice, printer and proprietor of Moving Parts Press, are at once abstract, fractural, and familiar. Literally and emotionally, they underscore Alarcón's fourteen homoerotic sonnets, which are reminiscent of those produced by Federico García Lorca in his suppressed collection, "Sonnets of Dark Love." Like Lorca, Alarcón reimagines the sonnet form to explore earthly loves and to bear out the emotion, turmoil, and beauty of queer desire, especially stark and beautiful against the typical machismo expected of men. Alarcón's verses are presented bilingually, with translations by poet Adrienne Rich and Francisco Aragon, a Lorca translator and scholar. In 1992, AIGA selected this edition as one of the fifty best designed books in the United States. Felicia Rice's Press has published hundreds of books, broadsides, prints, and ephemera celebrating the book as a performance of text; for the past 25 years, Rice has grounded this vision in the Literatura Chicanx/Latinx Series, which brings together Chicanx/Latinx artists and writers to explore the realities of their cultural experience. Bound in full yellow cloth with one of Ray Rice's illustrations printed on the front cover. Fine in a matching slipcase.

Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. Limited Edition. Santa Cruz: Moving Parts Press, 1994. Textured paper wraps with a pastedown on the front panel. 24 pages. Limited to 150 copies, inscribed by the author to book artist Sam Amico of the Middle Earth Press. Has Amico's book plate on the first free end paper. Light edge wear. Near fine. Published in association with the University of California, Santa Cruz, Song of the Andoumboulou: 18-20 is a fine press artists' book forged from the poetry of Nathaniel Mackey and the sculpture of Doyle Foreman. The poems comprise three installments from Mackey's ongoing serial work, "Song of the Andoumboulou," whose title is drawn from ritual music of the Dogon in Mali. Mackey's poems project African and Iberian ceremonial figures and jazz iconography onto a rhythmic understructure, creating a vehicle that journeys through elemental landscapes reminiscent of Foreman's bas-relief compositions. This movement is reflected in the book where the poems are typeset to dance down each page, suggesting multiple readings. The only copy for sale anywhere.
