Book
Paperback. Condition: Good. Do humans take dogs for walks, or are the dogs taking us for a ride? This book searches for answers with the eyes of an analyst and the mind of a philosopher. This is a book for thoughtful dog-lovers who want to sniff out the deeper issues raised by dogs and their relationships with humans. Twenty philosophers and dog lovers tell us about their experiences with dogs they have known, and give us their (un-dogmatic) insights on dog-related themes of metaphysics and ethics. Questions posed include: Do dogs live in the same world that we do? Are we wrong to think our dogs have personalities and emotions? What are dogs thinking and what's the nature of canine wisdom? And, if dogs are our friends, why do we think we can have them neutered? The book has been read but remains in clean condition. All pages are intact and the cover is intact. Some minor wear to the spine.

Book
Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Breaking Bad, hailed by Stephen King, Chuck Klosterman, and many others as the best of all TV dramas, tells the story of a man whose life changes because of the medical death sentence of an advanced cancer diagnosis. The show depicts his metamorphosis from inoffensive chemistry teacher to feared drug lord and remorseless killer. Driven at first by the desire to save his family from destitution, he risks losing his family altogether because of his new life of crime. In defiance of the tradition that viewers demand a TV character who never changes, Breaking Bad is all about the process of change, with each scene carrying forward the morphing of Walter White into the terrible Heisenberg. Can a person be transformed as the result of a few key life choices? Does everyone have the potential to be a ruthless criminal? How will we respond to the knowledge that we will be dead in six months? Is human life subject to laws as remorseless as chemical equations? When does injustice validate brutal retaliation? Why are drug addicts unsuitable for operating the illegal drug business? How can TV viewers remain loyal to a series where the hero becomes the villain? Does Heisenberg's Principle of Uncertainty rule our destinies? In Breaking Bad and Philosophy, a hand-picked squad of professional thinkers investigate the crimes of Walter White, showing how this story relates to the major themes of philosophy and the major life decisions facing all of us. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Shows UNDERLINING IN INK to page 78 and then in the last few pages of the book. Else, Very Good in Wraps: shows slight spine lean; very light wear to the extremities; moderate rubbing and very faint soiling to wrapper covers; the sewn binding is secure. Clearly a flawed copy, but remains a sturdy, presentable working copy. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. xl, 280pp. Includes Appendix, Bibliography and Index. Second Edition [1966], Revised & Enlarged. One of the Philosophical Classics, Religion of Science Library No. 45. Trade Paperback. An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding is a book by the Scottish empiricist philosopher David Hume, published in 1748. It was a revision of an earlier effort, Hume's A Treatise of Human Nature, published anonymously in London in 1739 40. Hume was disappointed with the reception of the Treatise, which "fell dead-born from the press," as he put it, and so tried again to disseminate his more developed ideas to the public by writing a shorter and more polemical work. The end product of his labours was the Enquiry. The Enquiry dispensed with much of the material from the Treatise, in favor of clarifying and emphasizing its most important aspects. For example, Hume's views on personal identity do not appear. However, more vital propositions, such as Hume's argument for the role of habit in a theory of knowledge, are retained. This book has proven highly influential, both in the years that would immediately follow and today. Immanuel Kant points to it as the book which woke him from his self-described "dogmatic slumber". The Enquiry is widely regarded as a classic in modern philosophical literature. Second Edition [1966], Revised & Enlarged.
