Book
Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. It's 1962. Portuguese immigrant, Veronica arrives in the US with her new husband, via a prearranged marriage to her cousin, in search of the American Dream. That dream proves to be elusive. While raising her two sons, Veronica struggles to balance her domineering live-in mother-in-law, and her failing marriage. Since divorce is out of the question, she is faced with the difficult choice: leave her husband and run away with her sons, get rid of her mother-in-law through extreme measures, or simply follow the guidance from her mentor, Aunt Heydee, whose advice still rings in her ears, "grab the bull by the horns and stop complaining." Book II of Veronica's Adventures candidly covers Veronica's quest for self-discovery as she is Braving a New World. ".an amazing journey of excitement, fear, pain, strength and courage.a true testament that anyone can overcome adversity and alter the course of their life to achieve things they never thought possible." Jennifer Ott, Photographer, artist of Ooh Baby Compound me: Give me Credit, Wild Horses, and Edge of Civilization. ".a pleasant walk through the 70's and 80's. This book is an enjoyable reading experience." Karen Sorbel, Producer and Editor for Willamette Falls Television. Book First Edition
Softcover. Condition: Near Fine. Photocopy. Octavo sheets, printed rectos only. [62]pp. Uneven sheets side stapled. Light wear, still fine. Accompanied by original mailing envelope stamped with The Black Tarantula return address and hand addressed by Acker to Robert Bertholf, the influential poetry professor and former curator of The Poetry Collection at Buffalo, along with a Autograph Note on the rear flap: "As promised. Please excuse lousy quality of xerox. Love." A photocopy of the pages of Acker's first solely authored work sent to Bertholf in lieu of an original copy; the mailing cancel date read "May 16 1974," two years after the book's publication. Interestingly, the first page of the photocopy shows not the all-black front cover, which would been impossible to reproduce, but the title page showing Acker's note "Myself (A)," likely indicating the copy was made using her own personal copy. While not an original copy, a unique artifact produced by the author using her own copy of the her rare first book and through the mail like several of her earliest works.
