Condition: VG Hardback book in VG DJ. Maps on endpapers, photos (illustrator). First Printing. The part Maine natives had in the building of the West. The book contains an extraordinary collection pf family letters found in the McArthur attic in Limington, Maine, in the summer of 1942 now in the Beaudoin Library. From a reading of several hundred of these written by five sons and a daughter to their parents and to each other (1823-1870) developed the simple fact that national history is a composite of the behavior of those responding in various ways at the grsss roots level. State history cannot stand alone. But its couse is affeted by trends in naniona history which in turn have been influenced by the behavior pattern of people on the loca level in both a cause and result relationship.
