Hardbound. Condition: As New. New. Contents Foreword. Preface. Introduction. 1. Ajit Singh and Bahadurshah restoration of the Jodhpur principality. 2. Ajit Singh's relations with Jahandar Shah and Farrukhsiyar (1712 1719). 3. Maharaja Ajit Singh the Sayyid Ascendancy and aftermath (1719 1724). 4. Abhai Singh and Muhammad Shah early relations (1724 1733). 5. Jodhpur Mughal relations last phase (1733 1752). Conclusion. Glossary. Appendix. Bibliography. Index. This book presents an in depth study of Mughal relations with the rulers of Jodhpur a major state of Rajasthan during the first half of the eighteenth century. Based on the eighteenth century Persian and Rajasthani sources the study focuses on the workings of the Mughal alliance with the Jodhpur chiefs the imperial power's efforts to conciliate and incorporate the Rathor Chiefs of Marwar in order to make them reliable committed and zealous participants in the governance of the empire that they had earlier been and the response of the Rathor Chiefs to such efforts as well as the problems facing the empire. The author shows how the forces of imperial collapse changed the patterns of power as well as the political behaviour of the nobles of the empire. Affiliation with the dominant section of the nobility actually controlling the powers of authority and not loyalty to the emperor accounted for securing imperial patronage. The study shows the bitter struggle among court nobles for power the rapidly shrinking imperial domains accompanied by declining resources narrowed the prospects in imperial service and made the bellicose Rathore Chiefs to subvert the imperial control and become tied to their principality and drawn into mutual conflicts with their neighbouring chiefs and the Marathas. 188 pp.

They include scholarly pieces as well as brief introductions, notes, reviews and comments on a variety of themes such as old Malayalam, art, architecture, music theory and paintings, epigraphical transcripts, granthavari-s and Ayurvedic treatment against snake poison. The principal merit of the articles is their thematic relationship to medieval and early modern history and culture. Though written long ago, the undated nature of their themes makes them relevant to relatively longer periods. Articles dealing with specialised and technical subjects like architecture, music theory and health care belonging to the traditional wisdom contribute to the history of indigenous knowledge system." Hardcover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. China! why? Because, China is in India since 1950s, when for the first time in 1957, a gullible and virtually clueless India detected the illegal construction of a road, by China, through Indian state Jammu & Kashmir's Aksai Chin region. This happened much before the existence of any bona fide cause of action for China to go inside, and violate sovereignty of India. China's problem was China's own creation and not the creation of India. Earlier too, China had shown her colour by forcibly entering and occupying Tibet in 1950. Fast forward to October 1962. China attacked where Bhutan, Tibet and India meet. War was followed by China-instigated and masterminded tricks to set various tribal belts of North-east India on fire. As if that was not enough. State of Indian Bengal was the next target, carefully chosen as hunting ground of Mao's ideology with a sizeable Indian Hindu Bengalis operating as foot soldiers of the Communist Party of China, deep inside India. Today, China is again deep inside India; through commerce, economics, finance and industry. China will flourish at India's expense. India will be declining for failing to understand China. See the west and the weak nations around. Apparently fruitful though it may look, those who have studied Chinese for years, will tell you, India is destined to be doomed. I, as Indian Hindu Bengali, have seen China in Indian Bengal. Yesterday was ruined North-east India and the eastern state of Indian Bengal. Tomorrow will be the turn of the rest of India.

"Merchants and Companies in Bengal: Kasimbazar and Jugdia in the Eighteenth Century offers a fascinating glimpse into the world of the South Asian merchants as well as the organizations of the textile trade in Bengal in the first half of the eighteenth century. Heavily archived from French and English sources, this book tells the story of the silk merchants at Kasimbazar and the cotton traders at Jugdia prior to EEIC's takeover of Bengal. The fragility and instability of a mercantile economy, the commodification of goods and the role of capital -- both indigenous and external--are highlighted in this volume." (jacket).
