Book
Softcover. white wraps w/ black printing; yellow, vellum jacket. 70 pgs w/ primarily color plates. Text in English. Thoroughly illustrated with the works of Argentine artist Marcelo Brodsky and Mexico city born artist, Pablo Ortiz Monasterio. "Dialogue allows us to discover what makes us similar, but also what sets us apart. It is the supreme challenge of our capacity to accept, where tension and contradictions, agreements and differences are resolved in a double gaze, in a common quest, begins writer Sandra Lorenzano in her introduction to Correspondence, which presents a volley of images e-mailed between Buenos Aires-based Marcelo Brodsky and Mexico City-based Pablo Ortiz Monasterio. Throughout the project, each photographer responded to the other's last image, poetically, playfully and intuitively combining the chance of a ready-made with the complexity of photographic memory. This volume's bold design reflects the artists' process: the spreads include one image by each artist, with the last image from the previous spread repeated on the first page of the next spread. Seeing each image twice creates an uncanny and suggestive vibe, replicating the instantaneous method in which the photographers worked and causing the viewer to draw unconscious connections."--WorldCat. Hardcover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. 1st Edition. First edition, first printing. Hardcover. Photographically illustrated paper-covered boards, with matching dust jacket. Photographs and text (in Spanish) by Yvonne Venegas. Designed by David Kimura and Gabriela Varela. 84 pp., with 72 four-color plates beautifully printed on 150-gsm Lumisilk Matt art paper in China by Toppan Printing Company, Ltd. 10 x 7-3/4 inches. This first edition was limited to 1600 copies. New in New dust jacket. From the publisher: "María Elvia de Hank is a view from within that observes the life, family, and circle of María Elvia de Hank, the wife of the eccentric millionaire and former mayor of Tijuana Jorge Hank Rohn. As the axis of the project, the wife of one of the richest businessmen in Mexico is observed creating, with her perfectionist's touch, a social ideal that takes its place as an example in both public and private life. This feminine axis, perfectly administered, is portrayed against the background that supports it, occasionally awakening doubts in the spectator as to its veracity. A mansion, a collection of animals, a soccer team and its fans, a casino, a school, horses, elegant clothes, all seen through the light and dust of northern Mexico, the land that can be found in a ranch, or a zoo, or some half-built construction. This volume gathers a body of work reflecting the modes of thought that has brought the aforementioned elements to light, without making judgments and without meeting the expectations of others, be they subjects or viewers. This is a document that includes fragile moments, gestures, encounters between persons and animals: taken together, they depict a lifestyle to which we are seldom privy.".

New in publisher's shrink-wrap. From the publisher: "In his photobook CENSURA Julián Barón presents a workbased on the style of 'broken camera,' using powerfulflashes that blind both the viewer and the photographedcharacter and transforming that photographic error intoa political language. In that big circus that politics is, photography andcensorship are allied to each other in order to manipulatepeople through the false use of image as a document, using large mass media to subtly but constantlymask those aspects that do not respond to the claims ofthe parties, blurring and distorting reality. However, by focusing in a different way on politicsand its leaders, trying to use the camera in decomposition,it is also possible to make photography censorcensorship and then, negative against negative, offersomething positive, some new perspectives on politiciansand their superficial status, revealing how the state theydefend so hardly vanishes with their actions, their imagesand all the paraphernalia that surrounds the ivory towerin which they believe they live in.".

Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. "The uncertainty felt by customers of the Venezuelan banks in 1993 was combined with the political uncertainty resulting from the Caracazo, followed by an unsuccessful coup d'etat and the destitution of the president on corruption charges. To make matters worse, oil prices began to fall in the early 1990s." So writes Luisa Leticia Rangel in her foreword to this book: a visual inventory of the collapse of the Venezuelan economy and banking system (1994 and 2009-2010). Luis Molina Pantin has gathered images of the ruined facades of bank branches, fractured bank logos, broken piggy banks, covers of books about the economic crisis, banknotes of various denominations circulating before and after the crash, and stills from commercials for the failing financial establishments. AUTHOR: Photographer Luis Molina-Pantin considers himself "essentially an urban archaeologist." He refers to his practice of combing through his surroundings and creating series featuring objects, people, or spaces united by a common theme or subject. In his work, Molina-Pantin has assembled photographs of Manhattan gallery offices, structures built with drug money, cruise ships, international hotel chains, wax museum art figures, and images of landscapes printed on objects. He likens his practice of hunting and photographing to the act of collecting, saying that "the photograph calms my urge to possess something that I can't." Molina-Pantin has been lauded for subverting photography's conventions of portraiture, landscape, and documentary in a wry and humorous way. Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. This book originated out of the need to create an archive of all the artists who have used Mexico City as a laboratory of ideas and creation, generating through their actions and interventions a constant reinterpretation and reactivation of public spaces. Whether through the transgression of the museum / gallery process or through the use of the city as an exhibition space, most of the pieces selected changed the relationship between spectators and works of art by existing in spaces that allow for greater openness and dialogue. In this way the city functions as a zone of experiences. Since most of the pieces were ephemeral, registered by the artists themselves or by the press, they can only be studied together in an archive of this kind. The book assembles the work of 136 different collectives and artists, both Mexican and foreign, who created some 200 works in Mexico City over the period of a decade. Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. Nicolas Savary, a Swiss photographer, fortuitously came into possession of the archive as part of a research project during an artistic residency in South America in 2014.
