Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Written especially for scientists, engineers and mathematicians, this book has been extensively updated and revised to conform to the 1998 ANSI/ISO C++ Standard. It now includes all the recent developments in C++ . Amongst its novel features is that no knowledge of programming is assumed. It is as much for the beginner in programming as it is for the newcomer to C++. Plenty of relevant examples are included throughout the book, most of which are slanted towards numerical applications, and it is this bias that makes it unique in its field and of particular interest to those who have to work with figures. 564 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -The area of networked learning (learning in which information and communications technology (ICT) is used to promote connections between people and resources) is wide and growing in importance, especially in further and higher education. It offers the opportunity to offer more flexible access to learning programmes over time and space, but not enough is yet known about exactly what it can offer and how best to ensure that institutions maintain and improve the quality of the learning experience. This book focuses on the key issues which anyone involved with the use, administration, or study of networked learning will need to know about. These include policy issues , the costs of networked learning, staff development issues, and the student experience. With contributions from authors based in Europe and the US and Australia, it offers a global perspective which is designed to inform professional practice and its administration. It will be essential reading for practitioners and researchers in higher education and learning technology and will be of interest to policy-makers and managers in HE academic administration. It will also be relevant to learning technologists and support staff, who may not have direct involvement with teaching but still need to understand the opportunities and issues presented by networked learning, and also to students and researchers in education and social science. 'The list of authors reads like a 'Who's Who' of Networked Learning' (Professor Diana Laurillard, OU, UK). 368 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -In 2001 AFIHM and the British HCI Group combined their annual conferences, bringing together the best features of each organisation's separate conference series, and providing a special opportunity for the French- and English-speaking HCI communities to interact. This volume contains the full papers presented at IHM-HCI 2001, the 15th annual conference of the British HCI group, a specialist group of the British Computer Society and the 14th annual conference of the Association Francophone d'interaction Homme-Machine, an independent association for any French-speaking person who is interested in Human-Computer Interaction.Human-Computer Interaction is a discipline well-suited to such a multi-linguistic and multi-cultural conference since it brings together researchers and practitioners from a variety of disciplines with very different ways of thinking and working. As a community we are already used to tackling the challenges of working across such boundaries, dealing with the problems and taking advantage of the richness of the resulting insights: interaction without frontiers. The papers presented in this volume cover all the main areas of HCI research, but also focus on considering the challenges of new applications addressing the following themes:- Enriching HCI by crossing national, linguistic and cultural boundaries;- Achieving greater co-operation between disciplines to deliver usable, useful and exciting design solutions;- Benefiting from experience gained in other application areas;- Transcending interaction constraints through the use of novel technologies;- Supporting mobile users. 612 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Alan Mathison Turing (1912-1954) was the first to carry out substantial re search in the field now known as Artificial Intelligence (AI). He was thinking about machine intelligence at least as early as 1941 and during the war cir culated a typewritten paper on machine intelligence among his colleagues at the Government Code and Cypher School (GC & CS), Bletchley Park. Now lost, this was undoubtedly the earliest paper in the field of AI. It probably concerned machine learning and heuristic problem-solving; both were topics that Turing discussed extensively during the war years at GC & CS, as was mechanical chess [121]. In 1945, the war in Europe over, Turing was recruited by the National Physical Laboratory (NPL)! in London, his brief to design and develop an electronic stored-program digital computer-a concrete form of the universal Turing machine of 1936 [185]. Turing's technical report 'Proposed Electronic 2 Calculator' , dating from the end of 1945 and containing his design for the Automatic Computing Engine (ACE), was the first relatively complete spec ification of an electronic stored-program digital computer [193,197]. (The document 'First Draft of a Report on the EDVAC', produced by John von Neumann and the Moore School group at the University of Pennsylvania in May 1945, contained little engineering detail, in particular concerning elec tronic hardware [202]. 228 pp. Englisch.
