In this chapter I will review work on this topic, mentioning particularly the interest in comparing results from different informants and different methods of investigation. Briefly, rough-and-tumble play (or R&T for short) refers to a cluster of behaviours whose core is rough but playful wrestling and tumbling on the ground; and whose general characteristic is that the behaviours seem to be agonistic but in a non-serious, playful c- text. One central problem of public policy analysis has been to find new ways of analyzing issues of increasing complexity and uncertainty. Triangulation is perhaps the best example of these novel techniques, as it uses various methods, databases, theories, and approaches to converge on what to do about the complex issue in question. Taking Complexity Seriously uses four different theoretical approaches (Girardian economics, cultural theory, critical theory, and the local justice framework) to triangulation in order to converge on answers to four major policy questions: What is sustainable development Why is it an issue What needs to be done What can actually be done These four approaches are used to analyze the sustainable development controversy that recently arose in the pages of Science magazine and the journal Ecological Applications. These different approaches prove highly potent in defamiliarizing conventional wisdom about sustainable development. Ultimately the different approaches will converge on novel answers to the four questions. In a hundred short years it has developed to the point that it now enhances nearly every aspect of human life. Yet our basic understanding of electronic-circuit operation, electronic -circuittheory, has not made significant progress during the semiconductor industry's explosive growth from 1950s to the present. This is because the electronic circuit has never been considered to be a challenging research subject by physi cists. Linear passive circuit theory was established by the late 1940s. After the advent of the semiconductor electron devices, the interest of the technical community shifted away from circuit theory. New 2-D switched-capacitor (SC) networks and design techniques are presented, both with finite impulse response (FIR) and infinite impulse response (IIR) with separable denominator polynomial, which offer simpler and more systematic synthesis procedures than currently available design techniques for 2-D analog filters. Since they are in the discrete-time domain, the book can be also referred to the digital multirate signal processing. A 2-D SC image processor that realizes both (2 x 2)nd-order Butterworth lowpass and highpass filtering functions for video image signals was realized as a prototype integrated circuit implemented in 1.0-mum CMOS technology. The experimental characterization of this prototype chip demonstrated the feasibility of real-time analog multirate 2-D image processing with equivalent 8-bits accuracy, using only 2.5 x 3.0 mm2 of silicon area and dissipating as little as 85 mW at 5V supply and 18 MHz sampling rate. This indicates that for moderate accuracy and low to moderate complexity of the filtering function, a fully multirate analog implementation has a potential to achieve a more competitive implementation than an alternative digital VLSI implementation. However, for high accuracy and/or higher processing complexity, not only the relative overhead cost of the front-end and back-end converters will diminish but also the implementation of the processing core in digital VLSI will benefit more of technology scaling to achieve higher density of integration.
