Édition originale de la traduction française par Albert Savine. L'un des 10 ex. sur Hollande, seul grand papier, numérotés et paraphés par l'éditeur (le nôtre portant le n°7). La fragile couverture est en bon état malgré deux petites fentes en pied et en tête, intérieur en parfait état. Cet ouvrage reprend les lettres écrites par Rudyard Kipling lors d'un voyage en Inde entrepris vers 1888, dans la région des Rajputs alors peu connue des occidentaux. "Il restait autre chose de ce bref et rapide voyage, les lettres écrites au jour le jour pour son journal par Kipling et où défilaient comme un vivant cinématographe tous les types originaux et bizarres rencontrés au cours de son excursion. D'aucuns de ceux-là sont connus. Les lecteurs de l'Oeuvre de Rudyard Kipling les ont vus dans Kim, dans L'Homme qui voulut être roi, dans ces récits qui ont rendu l'auteur célèbre dans les Deux Mondes." (Albert Savine, 1910, préface au Lettres de Marque). Il fut publié pour la première fois en Angleterre en 1899 sous le titre "From Sea to Sea and Other Sketches, Letters of Travel". Livre d'occasion.
