Edited by Christoph Becker, Essays by Christoph Becker, Christofer Conrad, Ingrid Heermann and Dina Sonntag. 11.25"x9", 181 pages. Satisfaction Guaranteed. Paul Gauguin (Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin) was a French Post-Impressionist artist. Unappreciated until after his death, Gauguin is now recognized for his experimental use of color and Synthetist style that were distinct from Impressionism. Toward the end of his life, he spent ten years in French Polynesia. The paintings from this time depict people or landscapes from that region. His work was influential on the French avant-garde and many modern artists, such as Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse, and he is well known for his relationship with Vincent and Theo van Gogh. Gauguin's art became popular after his death, partially from the efforts of dealer Ambroise Vollard, who organized exhibitions of his work late in his career and assisted in organizing two important posthumous exhibitions in Paris. Gauguin was an important figure in the Symbolist movement as a painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramist, and writer. His expression of the inherent meaning of the subjects in his paintings, under the influence of the cloisonnist style, paved the way for Primitivism and the return to the pastoral. He was also an influential practitioner of wood engraving and woodcuts as art forms. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Ex-Library.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good+. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Art Now; 70 pages; Clean and tight in original gray cloth binding in very good pictorial dustjacket. 48 illustrations (7 in colour). Translated by Sylvia Guth. Thomas Erma was born in Estonian in 1939, but emigrated with his family in youth, eventually settling in the United States. Erma's first exhibition was in Paris in 1959. ".his deep, brilliant imagination threw the doors of the spiritual universe open to him. The plastic effects he has produced for three years with his collage paintings are an eloquent token of the wealth and resourcefulness of his ensemblistic power, of his talen for the combination of forms." It is recorded that fellow artist Keith Sutton fell in love with Erma during a visit to Paris in 1960. Erma's short career was ended at the age of 25 by a bullet in the heart in 1964.

** 10% DESCUENTO/RABATT/DISCOUNT PRIMAVERA * 9,00 (reduced from 10,00) **.
