2 planches hors-texte (planche XXXVI : Portrait du sultan Hussein - planche XXXVII : Médaille de Sélim I et coupe en agate au nom du sultan Hussein datée de 1471-72 1ere édition, 1925 Book condition, Etat : Bon broché, sous couverture imprimée éditeur grise spécifique au tiré à part In-4 1 vol. - 4 pages Contents, Chapitres : L'auteur a découvert cette coupe à vin au Bazar de Stamboul (Istanbul), elle est au nom du sultan Hussein Baïcara, descendant au 5eme degré de Tamerlan, dont le règne s'étend sur le dernier tiers du Xve siècle et correspond à la période la plus brillante de l'art persan. (source : Introduction) - Cet objet est originaire de la ville d'Hérat. 3000 kilomètres séparent cette ville de Constantinople. Le fils de Hussein Bacaira, Bédi-ez-Zéman, dépossédé de ses états et réfugié auprès du Chah de Perse Ismail, à Tebriz, a été exilé à Constantinople, après la prise, en 1514, de la capitale persane par Sélim 1er (dont le portrait est reproduit sur une planche). Cette coupe rappelle donc le règne de Hussein Baicara, la fin des Timourides et l'entrée à Tebriz de Sélim 1er, mais aussi les artisans célèbres et habiles du Khorassan qui marque une date dans l'histoire de l'art turc. Un passage aborde d'ailleurs l'étrangeté de voir une coupe à vin possédée par un musulman. - Husayn Bayqara ou Hossein Bayqara (1438-1506), également dénommé Sultan Hossein Mirza Bayqara, grand émir timouride de 1469 à sa mort en 1506, installé à Hérat en Afghanistan, bénéficia d'un règne assez stable, mais son fils et successeur Badi az-Zaman fut renversé en 1507 lors de l'invasion finale des Chaybanides sur l'Empire timouride. Ce fut un grand mécène qui fit travailler le poète mystique persan Djami, le poète turc de langue tchaghataï Mir Alisher Navoï, et le peintre Behzad, grand-maître de la miniature persane, dans les dernières décennies de la Renaissance timouride.
