Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Charles Rennie Mackintosh's finest work dates from about a dozen intensely creative years around 1900. His buildings in Glasgow, and especially his craggy masterpiece the Glasgow School of Art, are more complex and playful than any other work in Britain at that time. His interiors, many of them designed in collaboration with his wife, Margaret Macdonald, are both spare and sensuous; a world of heightened aesthetic sensibility inside the Willow Tea Rooms or The Hill House. And his inventive imagination, which played constantly with the shape of curves and squares, produced designs for furniture which transformed ordinary chairs into pieces of abstract sculpture. Finally, in the 1920s he painted a series of watercolours which are as original as anything he had done before. Since his death, Mackintosh has been both lauded as a pioneer of the Modern Movement and as a master of Art Nouveau. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. The white-clad Druid wielding a golden sickle and conducting secret ceremonies in remote forest glades is a familiar figure in art and literature. But just how accurate is this view when compared with actual evidence from the past? Were the Druids barbaric head-hunters involved in human sacrifice? Or were they wise and benevolent healers who could interpret omens and predict the future? In this rich and fascinating account, lavishly supported by beautiful illustrations, Miranda Green unravels the truth about the Druids. Examining the archaeological evidence, Classical commentaries and early Welsh and Irish myths, she shows that the Druids were fully integrated into Celtic society as judges, teachers, healers, magicians, philosophers, religious leaders and fomenters of rebellion. Including sections on the Classical texts and first-hand accounts of ancient Druids, archaeological evidence, Druidical sacrifice, sanctuaries, shrines, and witches, this book traces the history of the Druids from ancient times to the present day. Modern Druidism and its links with Stonehenge and Avebury receive full coverage and a directory of modern Druidical societies reveals a worldwide phenomenon. Special features cover the celebrity Druids, ranging from Winston Churchill, to William Blake, to William Wordsworth. Complete with timeline and a gazeteer, this meticulously researched book should appeal to scholars, New Age enthusiasts and all those who are fascinated by the Druids and their world. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. "Sacred Symbols" is a series of volumes that introduce the ancient, universal wisdoms of humankind. Symbol and ritual go to the heart of human experience. Throughout history humans have developed elaborate symbolic systems to help allay their fear of the unknown and to tap the deep well-springs of spirituality. Today, people are discovering the relevance of these belief systems to life in the 1990s. This volume covers the symbols of Ancient Egypt. The whole observable world was, for the Ancient Egyptians, a symbolic representation. From the sun and the river Nile, which gave them food and sustenance, to the animal kingdom and even architecture, different phenomena were seen to have hidden meanings. Symbolism, at its deepest level, was the means by which the Egyptians interpreted the nature of life itself - the creation, the after-life and the struggle between good and evil. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. When the internet emerged as a mass global communication network in the mid-1990s, artists immediately recognized the exciting possibilities for creative innovation that came with it. This book considers the many diverse forms of internet art and the tools and equipment used to create them, while discussing the wider cultural context and historical importance of the work. Covering email art, websites, artist-designed software and projects that blur the boundaries between art and design, product development, political activism and communication, "Internet Art" shows how artists have employed online technologies to engage with the traditions of art history, to create new forms of art and to depart into fields of activity normally beyond the artistic realm. Throughout the book, the views of artists, curators and critics offer an insider's perspective on the subject, while a timeline and glossary provide easy-to-follow guides to the key works, events and technological developments that have taken art into the 21st century. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. This Book Thinks Youre an Artist is one of the rare books on the market to combine art history with practical activities on the page. It asks the reader to imagine their eccentric-artist alter-ego before working through six key topics: painting, sculpture, illustration, decorative art, photography and contemporary art. Each spread centres on a different technique for producing a piece of art, and relates the activity back to a famous artist or movement in a light-hearted and playful tone. Activities include making a Bruegel circus, playing a Surrealist game, selling a scribble for a million pounds and painting your face like a Russian Futurist. A section of paper-based crafts at the end of the book includes a kit to build a camera obscura. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged. Russell, Harriet (illustrator).

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Abandoned unfinished and left to rot on Venices Grand Canal, il palazzo non finito was once an unloved guest among the aristocrats of Venetian architecture. Yet in the 20th century it played host to three passionate and unconventional women who would take the city by storm. The staggeringly wealthy Marchesa Luisa Casati made her new home a belle epoque aesthetes fantasy and herself a living work of art; notorious British socialite Doris Castlerosse (nee Delevingne) welcomed film stars and royalty to glittering parties between the wars; and American heiress Peggy Guggenheim amassed an exquisite collection of modern art, which today draws visitors from around the world. Each in turn used the Unfinished Palazzo as a stage on which to re-fashion her life, with a dazzling supporting cast ranging from DAnnunzio and Nijinsky, through Noel Coward, Winston Churchill and Cecil Beaton, to Yoko Ono. Individually sensational and collectively remarkable, these stories of modern Venice tell us much about the ways women chose to live in the 20th century. .
