Hardcover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. 1st Edition. Contents: Preface. 1. Introduction. 2. Recapitulations (Pre-liberation up to 1971). 3. Recapitulations (Post-liberation up to 2012). 4. Master plan 1983. 5. Proceedings of international seminar 2004. 6. Additional materials. Bibliography. Index. This is the second book on Paharpur being presented after 76 years of the first one published in 1938 by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). With this book it is the intention of the author to give an impulse to the study of Paharpur, and assist in assembling all relevant literature in a handy volume. This is in order to provide the reader, particularly the research scholars, with an all encompassing view of the monument. The obvious paucity of scientific literature on post-excavation Paharpur, has discouraged scholars from taking up the subject for further study. The UNESCO involvement with Paharpur since the Independence, besides introducing improved measures for conservation of the monuments, encouraged specific publications. The Master Plan of 1983 for the conservation and presentation of Paharpur and Bagerhat, then the two would be world heritage sites, was a very useful documentation prepared by an UNESCO Mission, recommending ways and means for the preservation of the two sites. The next important publication was the proceedings of the International Seminar on Elaboration of an Archaeological Research Strategy for Paharpur World Heritage Site held on 20-25 March 2004. This seminar was primarily devoted to the conservation problems at Paharpur. As stated earlier, in view of the scarcity of published tracts on Paharpur within Bangladesh, it was decided to incorporate a selection of such materials in this volume. These materials have been arranged in two groups under the captions of Recapitulations: Pre-liberation upto 1947 and Recapitualtions: Post-liberation upto 2012. It was not an easy task to procure copies of articles related to Paharpur published abroad decades ago. It is expected that this volume will remain useful for quite some time. (jacket).
