Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Hardcover. One of 660 copies. Another splendid yearbook on the book and book arts from John and Rose Randle of The Whittington Press, with 27 interesting articles by printers, artists, booksellers, scholars, and more The Randles write: "The Matrix 35 breaks our golden rule of ignoring the outpourings of the Whittington Press: there is a telling account of the collecting of our posters and ephemera; and images from some recently discovered 35mm film recording the installation of the Wharfedale Press through the end of the building in 1974. Other topics include printers' social lives in Minneapolis in the '80s, living and working in the Gill household at Pigotts in 1939, travels in Afghanistan, roofing in 6-point Gill Sans, and an engraver's collage of buildings from the Iron Age to City skyscrapers." Bound in white decorated paper covered boards with a linocut of Whittington village. In tan paper dust jacket with early photograph of Rose affixed to the front cover. Photographs, illustrations, print samples throughout, many tipped in. In fine condition. 168 pages. PRI/112118.

Seller: Alcuin Books, ABAA/ILAB, Scottsdale, AZ, U.S.A.
Limited Edition. Imperial Quarto. Limited to 150 copies and includes "eight pages" from the Prayer book of 1913 which according to the colophon, should have only contained four. The present copy is number 96. 32[4],33-36[37], 38-39[1], [4], 41[4]-44 pages and colophon. The Oxford University Press announced the closure of it printing house in Walton Street, Oxford in 1989. While clearing the premises, a stack of printed sheets or "quires" which should have been sent to recycling years before were used in producing this book. It was noted that the sheets were too fine to be destroyed yet they were incomplete. The book was abandoned at the outbreak of the war in August 1914. Rather than attempting to create another complete book using the Fell type and basically making a facsimile or later printing of the work, these sheets were then integrated into the present book limiting the publication to only 200 copies. Half-bound in buckram and paper printed with a selection of Fell ornaments. The text leaves are a beige color while the leaves from the prayer book are bright white. A fine copy housed in a fine publisher's slipcase.
