The war continued with the assassination of American diplomats and military personnel in Europe and North Africa. The latest fronts in that war are in Afghanistan, Palestine, Lebanon, and Iraq. Iran arms, funds, trains, and directs a variety of terror groups, numbering tens of thousands of terrorists, regardless of their religious or ethnic makeup. It is a mistake to believe that Iranian mullah leaders think like those of traditional nation states. They are religious zealots. They openly welcome the end of the world, which would usher in the millennium, under the sway of the long~vanished 12th Imam. They say they intend to bring about the millennium by using atomic bombs on Israel. That is a chiliastic vision that embraces the murder of millions of us. The Iranian Time Bomb suggests that it's time for us to hold firm. It includes a final chapter that was written close to publication.

Hardcover. Condition: USED_NEARFINE. 1st Edition. Stated First Edition with Number Line to 1. This book is signed by the author on the half-title page and has the added value of the inscription being to the renowned historian, David McCullough. The inscription reads: 'To David McCullough, A fellow lover of history, Jon Bauman.' Both the book and dust jacket are in excellent shape. You can see the covers of the book in the photos. They are exceptionally clean. The gilt lettering on the spine is very bright. The edges and corners are in excellent condition. There is a tiny bit of crinkling at the bottom edge of the spine. The book is square and very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The interior of the book is in excellent shape. The pages are exceptionally clean. I'm not seeing any soiling at all. That includes the white inside covers and end papers. I'm not seeing any turned-down corner or placeholder creases. There are no markings. No attachments. And the author's signed inscription is the only writing to be found anywhere in the book. The only page imperfection I'm finding is quite minor. A sort of shadow, colorless, of a vertical impression on the early pages, something that may have been created by something pressing down there. You may or may not be able to make it out on the signed page (I haven't taken the photos yet). There is a double-page map of The Santa Fe Trail Right before the Prologue. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. It is very clean. There are no tears. The flaps are in solid condition. There is a very thin vertical crease on the front flap. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. It will be fitted with a protective cover after the photos are scanned. From the dust jacket: 'Mixing a fascinating and exciting cast of characters with the adventure and uncertainty of the times, Santa Fe Passage is a remarkable story, full of rich detail and vivid imagery of life in New Mexico in the early 1800s.'. Inscribed by Author(s).

Hardcover. Condition: USED_VERYGOOD. Dust Jacket Condition: Very good. xxiv, 262 pages. Includes Introduction, Acknowledgments and a Note on Sources; Endnotes; and Index. Chapters include The Rise of the Terror Network; The Home Front; The Foreign Theater; How to Win the War; Final Thoughts; and Looking Forward. Also includes Acknowledgments and a Note on Sources; Endnotes, and an Index. Michael Arthur Ledeen (born August 1, 1941) is an American historian, foreign policy analyst, and author with a Ph.D. in philosophy. He is a former consultant to the United States National Security Council, the United States Department of State, and the United States Department of Defense. He held the Freedom Scholar chair at the American Enterprise Institute where he was a scholar for twenty years and now holds the similarly named chair at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies. His doctoral dissertation eventually became Universal Fascism: The Theory and Practice of the Fascist International, 1928-1936, first published in 1972. Ledeen's political views developed to stress "the urgency of combating centralized state power and the centrality of human freedom". In the early 1980s, Ledeen appeared before the newly established Senate Subcommittee on Security and Terrorism, alongside former CIA director William Colby, author Claire Sterling and former Newsweek editor Arnaud de Borchgrave. Both Ledeen and de Borchgrave worked for the Center for Strategic and International Studies at Georgetown University at the time. All testified that they believed the Soviet Union had provided for material support and training for various terrorist groupings. The war against the terror masters is a riveting guide to the terrorist crisis. Michael A. Leeden explains in startling detail why the United States was so unprepared for the September 11 catastrophe; the nature of the terror network we are fighting--including its state sponsors; the role of radical Islam; the enemy collaboration of some of our traditional Middle Eastern "allies"; and, most convincingly, what America must do to win the war. An examination of the rise of the international terror networks, and the past and current efforts of our intelligence services to destroy the terror masters in the U.S. and overseas, Ledeen's book also visits countries in the Near East and describes the terrorist cancer cells in each. Revelations include: how the terror network survived the loss of its main sponsor, the Soviet Union; how the FBI learned from a KGB defector--twenty years before Osama bin Laden's murderous assault on September 11--of the existence of Arab Terrorist sleeper networks inside the United States, and much more. Derived from a Publishers Weekly article: Ledeen, a member of the conservative think tank American Enterprise Institute and a former National Security Council consultant, persuasively details the links between several regimes and terrorist groups, and castigates previous presidents (particularly Bill Clinton) for discounting the terrorist threat and tolerating the complacency and bungling of U. S. intelligence agencies. His theory of terrorism is that the "terror masters" are "tyrants" who loathe America because of its "existence" as a symbol of freedom. Ledeen urges the United States to help the citizens of terrorist states overthrow their despotic rulers, he warns that to do so-i.e., to be ready for war-Americans must give up their faith in "radical egalitarianism" and "the perfectibility of man" in favor of Machiavellian principles. Many readers will applaud Ledeen's hard-nosed demand to "reconcile our democratic values with the necessity of imposing our will," but a few others may think the adjustment is too great.
