Cloth. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. First Edition. Hardback. First Edition. Wear and tear to D/J. Foreword by Brooks Atkinson. Whimsically funny, gentle, and generous to a fault, Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse laid to rest forever the claim that nive guys finish last. They were the most successful team of playwrights in the history of the American stage. And in this double portrait their story is told by a gifted writer who is also one of the great ladies of the theatre. From their first collaboration on Anything Goes! in the mid 1930s, the names of Lindsay and Crouse were synonymous with great hits: Arsenic and Old Lace, State of the Union, Call Me Madam, The Sound of Music and, of course, Life With Father - the longest running play in the annals of Broadway. The author's biography offers glimpses of such famous figures as Irving Berling, Frank Sullivan, the Lunts, the Round Table Group, Ethel Merman, and Bob Hope. Around them bubble marvelous anecdotes of Broadway and the boondocks, by turns tart, endearing and hilarious. Illustrated. 242 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Academic Literature.).

Cloth. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. Hardback. First Edition. A Girl of the Eighties. Wear to top and bottom edge of spine and corners of cloth. 'Walnut Hill School' stamped to inside cover and title page. Slight browning to end inside covers. Red cloth with black lettering. This book was begun by Martha Pike Conant as a full biography of her sister. When her task was interrupted by illness, it was continued with change and restriction of plan, largely as a collection of letters revealing the formative influences upon Charlotte Howard Conant and her character during her earlier years, referring only in conclusion to the foundation of Walnut Hill School. It remains in considerable measure the work of Martha Pike Conant. The first two chapters were written by herself, and later chapters were founded upon bibliographical notes, old diaries, and files of her sister's letters assembled by her. It had till nearly the end the benefit of her criticism. Frontispiece. 262 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions, Reference books ,and all types of Academic Literature.).
