Book
Paper Back. Condition: New. 'We began reading Mounier by following references. In the contemporary expression of Trinitarian theology, there has been an important resurgence of interest in the Fathers' thinking concerning the personal nature of the Trinity, and the person as the significant ineradicable datum of Christian theology. In reading such works as Being as Communion by John Zizoulas, The Eucharist Makes the Church and Sacrament of Salvation by Paul McPartlan, and Persons in Communion by Alan Torrance, we found innumerable references to the philosophy of personalism, particularly as presented by Emmanuel Mounier (peer of Marcel and Maritain) and John Macmurray. Approaching Mounier's clearest statement of personalism, I originally attempted to highlight or underscore in this book all of his reflections that seemed essential to Christian understanding of the person. Soon only a few sentences remained unmarked on each page. It was no time before I understood why his clear, applicable presentation of his thinking was so essential to contemporary theologians -- both his ideas and examples of the significance of personalistic thinking (as differentiated from individualism or existentialism) seem so fundamental and powerful to Christian thought that they must not go unnoticed. All concerned with a seminal Christian understanding of the person in our century must engage this text.
