First Edition
Hardcover. First. First American edition. Original salmon cloth patterned in blindstamp, title in gilt on front board. 61 pps plus 67 plates on 42 leaves printed on rectos only. Particularly scarce in the first American edition, this highly regarded work on trainging to create proper perspective in painting and drawing drew recommendations from Samuel F.B. Morse (then president of The National Acedemy of Design) and James Renwick of Columbia College, whose accolades appear on a tipped in leaf at the front. A tight copy, moderate sunning about the outer areas of the boards and to the spine, some old pencil notations front pastedown, pencil gift inscription on the "Recommenadtions" leaf; the plates are foxed as usual, some heavily, others more lightly. Quite presenatble copy of a scarce title.
