Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Book Club Edition (BCE). Long out-of-print, this has long been the definitive book on the case of Alice Crimmins, the attractive cocktail waitress in Queens (New York City) whose two children were kidnapped & murdered in 1965. She was vilified on the basis of her lifestyle, which didn't fit that of a "proper wife & mother" in the early 1960s. Very well-written by a reporter for the New York Post & Newsday, in 270 pages + 8 pages of real black-and-white photos in center. From the collection of one true-crime enthusiast (with their name label on ffep), this is a Book Club Edition (BCE) of the First Edition from 1975. With olive green cloth-covered boards lettered in light blue to front & spine, the hardcover book is in Near Fine condition: completely clean, binding strong & straight, pages slightly off-white. NO writing or underlining or highlighting. Only flaw is mild corner bumping. The unclipped DJ is VG, with mild edgewear & rubbing to extremities, but no fading; protected in new mylar cover Free! Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: fine. First edition. Hardcover. 293 pp. plus index. Illustrated with photos. First edition (stated). Fine in fine, price clipped dust jacket. The story of one of the most (in)famous true crime cases in late 20th century New York City. In 1965, Alic Crimmins reported her two children--five year old Eddie, Jr. and four-year old Missy--missing from their Kew Gardens, Queens home. Later that day, Missy's strangled body was found (Eddie's never was) and police had no clues to the identity of the killer. Crimmins was followed and covertly recorded by the NYPD for three years and was, in 1968, charged with manslaughter in Missy's death. She was convicted but upon appeal the verdict was overturned; in 1971, she was charged with first-degree murder in Eddie's death and manslaughter in Missy's death, was convicted of both but this verdict as well was overturned in 1973, following which she was re-convicted of manslaughter in Missy's death. She was paroled in 1978.
