Jean Dubuffet (1901-1985) was a French painter and sculptor who founded the "art brut" movement of art, which is also known as "outsider art." This catalog was published on the occasion of an exhibition at the American Folk Art Museum in New York. The exhibition showcased about 200 of the approximately 1,200 artworks amassed by Dubuffet to be displayed in the United States. The 1,200 artworks were created by 120 self-taught artists. Most of the artists in this catalog are from France. Among the artists represented are Antinea (Marie-Louis Maneix), Barbus Muller, Juliette Elisa Bataille, Aloise Corbaz, Henri Filaquier, Auguste Forestier, Madge Gill, Miguel Hernandez, Aimable Jayet, Sylvain Lecocq, Alfonso Ossorio, Xavier Parguey, Guillaume Pujolle, Adolf Wolfli, and Carlo Zinelli. Essays by Sarah Lombardi, Kent Minturn, and Jill Shaw.
