First Edition. First Edition. Unpaginated; illustrated. Oblong 8vo. Alex Kayser (b.1949 - d.2015) was a Swiss born photographer whose downtown New York City loft on West Broadway became a hub for the art scene where luminaries such as Sam Wagstaff, Andy Warhol, George Maciunas or Christo and Jeanne-Claude lounged at his bar. Fostering his musical proclivities, Alex cherished roaming the music clubs in Lower Manhattan and the Bowery documenting artists, musicians, bankers, soldiers, sex workers, and political leaders colouring black-and-white prints with glaze paint. In Artists' Portraits the book begins with Andy Warhol interviewing Kayser about his work and process while most of the book is a monograph of Kayser's portraits of artists he'd met. Pictorial wrappers with light soiling on verso, very light bumping to corners, some foxing on half title but overall a near fine copy Unpaginated; illustrated. Oblong 8vo.
