Complete in two volumes. Uniformly bound in half calf. Each volume has an engraved title page. A comprehensive history of the fall of the Roman Empire, with additional reference to the invasion and settlement of the barbarians. This work is part of the Cabinet Cyclopaedia. Jean Charles Leonard de Sismondi was a Swiss historian and political economist, best known for his historical publications. He was a pioneering advocate for unemployment insurance, sickness benefits, pensions and regulated working hours. His work was popular among socialists, earning him critical commentary in the Communist Manifesto. In a half calf binding. Externally, with rubbing to the extremities and marks to the boards. Spines are darkened. Small crack to the upper joint of volume one. Cracks to the joints of volume two. Spine label is missing from volume two. Scattered spots to the rear free endpapers and light offsetting to the edges of the paste-downs and free endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages age-toned but otherwise very bright and clean with just the odd spot throughout. Spotting heavier to the title pages. Good Only. book.

First edition thus, eight volume hardcover set, published between 2000 and 2003, all the books have a very small skew or lean to their binding, and very mild bumps to their spine ends, while Vol. I, VII & VIII also have a touch of shelfwear to their cover corners, Vol. II has very short creases to the lower corner of a few pages, and Vol. III has a thin, faint stray mark to head of its text block. Otherwise this is a solid, tight, sharp Very Good+ or better eight volume set, in like slipcases, all of which have some light rubbing, and very slight bumps to their corners. Most of the slipcases also have a hint of wear to their edges, while the case for Vol. I has a touch of lifting starting to the paper along the rear seam, and Vol. III has a small bump to tail of its opening.
