Original Cloth. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. First Edition. First US edition of a book first published by Sampson Low in the UK in 1939 under the title 'The Baron at Large.' The boards have a little browning along the top edges and light bumping to the top corners but are otherwise clean and unmarked. Browning to the edges of the pages. The front free endpaper has a small brown stain to the right side. The rear free endpaper also has a small stain at the top. The pages are a little browned but otherwise unmarked. The jacket has a quarter inch strip missing at the top of the spine which also has a little chipping at the bottom. The front panel has two closed tears to the top edge where there are two small chips and some creasing. The front panel also has a diagonal crease across it towards the bottom where this some creasing and a small chip to the bottom right corner. The rear panel is browned with a small closed tear to the top edge. First printing.

A scarce First Edition of the work in the original unclipped Dust Wrapper. Dated from copies found on JISC, held at The British Library.This work is sixth in the series of forty-six by Anthony Morton, which depict the adventures of The Baron, an ex-jewel thief and antiques dealer. The Baron, aka John Mannering, gets plunged into a world of danger as some precious jewels go missing. Anthony Morton is one of the twenty-eight pseudonyms of John Creasey, the English crime writer who wrote more than six hundred novels throughout his life. He was known for his many different series of fiction, being such a prolific and fast writer that he once claimed he could be locked in a glass box and write an entire novel before being let out. In original publisher's bright orange cloth binding, with original unclipped Dust Wrapper. Externally, excellent, with minor shelf wear. A slight mark to the tail of the spine. The odd handling mark to endpapers. Dust Wrapper in good condition, with chipping to the extremities and the occasional closed tear. Part of the wrap lacking to the tail of the spine. Spotting and age toning to the rear and to the reverse of the wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Light age toning and the odd spot to pages. Very Good Indeed. book.
