First Edition Signed
Hardcover. Condition: Near fine. Dust Jacket Condition: near fine. First Edition. Octavo, 237pp. A crisp, clean, unread copy, very near fine in the publisher's orange cloth. Tiny abrasions to the base of the spine, inevitable with this kind of cheap cloth. In a near fine dust jacket, mildly creased at the crown, slightly faded on the spine, as usual, but with no significant chips or tears. SIGNED by both authors on the front free endpaper, and quite scarce thus. This is the follow-up to "Cheaper By the Dozen," the fictionalized account of the authors' childhoods growing up with two parents who had developed an elaborate system for efficiency in the workplace, which they also used in their own house. This sequel tells the story of how their mother continued to raise twelve children after her husband, Frank B. Gilbreth, Sr., died. Just as the original novel was made into a 1950 film, "Belles on their Toes" was also adapted into a film in 1952, starring Myrna Loy. The few signed copies we have ever been able to locate in commerce are typically signed just by Carey, and not by Gilbreth, Jr. An attractive example.
