The Benders would rob and kill people who stopped at their house. Once discovered, they fled and newspapers reported that they were shot to death by a posse. 16 years later they were discovered and stood trial. A story you'd expect to see in a horror film! Original green cloth with pictorial paper label affixed to the front cover with titles in white, 173 pp., introduction, illustrated. Six Guns 1154 says "Rare." "A full history of those unparalleled killers, related by their defense lawyer, who must have known the facts. There are several typographical errors, as well as some misspellings." The Benders used their home as a stopping off place for travelers and then killing their victims in some manner and taking their property, including horses, saddles, wagons, money, etc. They were under suspicion regarding their activities, until finally they tried to escape and eventually were caught and returned for their trial. A rare item, housed in a 4-point cloth case which is inserted into a quarter leather and cloth slipcase with titles stamped in gold gilt on the spine.
