Diese Bilder und Geschichten aus Deutschland zeigen: Es gibt sie schon noch, die sogenannten alten deutschen Tugenden wie Ordnung, Pünktlichkeit, Fleiß. Und zwar in Deutschland-West und in Deutschland-Ost. Nur: Diejenigen, die einen Kult damit treiben, haben in ihrem Verhalten oft etwas Anarchisches oder gar naiv Amoralisches. Dirk Reinartz (* 15. September 1947 in Aachen; 27. März 2004 in Berlin) war ein deutscher Fotograf. Ausgebildet bei Otto Steinert, wurde Dirk Reinartz 1970 als jüngster Reportagefotograf in der Redaktion des Stern eingestellt; später arbeitete er für die Nachrichtenmagazine bzw. Zeitschriften Der Spiegel, Die Zeit und Life. Die Themen seiner Reportagen waren vorzugsweise dokumentarischer Natur mit deutlichem politischem Bezug zu Deutschland und seiner Geschichte. Nach eigener Aussage wollte er nie mit erhobenem Zeigefinger arbeiten und entwickelte dafür eine eigene künstlerische Bildsprache. Bekannt wurde er mit einer Serie über Bismarck-Denkmale und mit dem eindrucksvollen Zyklus "totenstill" (1994) über ehemalige Konzentrationslager. Reinartz lehrte zuletzt an der Muthesius Kunsthochschule Kiel Fotografie. In Berlin, dem Ort seiner letzten großen Ausstellung, ist er im Alter von 56 Jahren verstorben.
