Contents: Family Gruidae--The Cranes; Family Rallidae -- The Rails, Coots, and Gallinules; Family Heliornithidae -- The Sun-grebes; Family Eurypygidae -- The Sun-bitterns. Robert Ridgway (1850-1929), was an American ornithologist appointed in 1880 as the first full-time curator of birds at the United States National Museum. An outstanding descriptive taxonomist, he wrote The Birds of North and Middle America, which was issued in 8 volumes, 1901-1919. Herbert Friedmann used Ridgway's work for the uncompleted ninth volume to produce this volume in 1941. In Very Good- Condition: front cover lightly soiled; rust mark on back cover; faint white call number at tail of spine; internally clean and tight.
