Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Hastings, Howard (illustrator). First Edition Later Printing. By the author of the "Boy Ranchers" series, this is book #3 in the short-lived, 7- book YA detective series published 1925-1933. Touted as being "clean, interesting, inspiring, & educational,'' this series depicted the "up-to-date adventures of a normal, healthy lad who has a great desire to solve mysteries.[showing] in an entertaining way how he does it." A FIRST EDITION, slightly later printing (listing to book self in front matter, but to book #5 in rear, with later blue-style DJ, no internals), in 246 pages with glossy frontispiece, decorative endpapers, 6 pages listing other children's series in rear. With tan cloth-covered boards stamped with a blue image of Bob peering into a window to front & that same blue lettering the front & spine, this hardcover 12mo (5.25" x 7.5") is in Good condition: mostly clean, but with soil to exterior boards. Binding is secure, but slightly shaky; gutter cracked at title page-frontispiece. Pages moderately tanned, heavier to all edges, but completely unmarked. Slight rubbing to extremities, slight corner bumping, dust dulling & light soil to external page edges. The bottom-clipped second-format blue DJ is also only Good: colorful & bright, but with many creases, small chips, short tears; nicely protected in nonreflective mylar cover by former owner. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same Day Shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, Weekends & holidays ship very next business day.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. This G+/VG- book is format 1, per Mattson & Davis (7-5/8 " gray cloth with black lettering; front cover has picture of boy in red & black looking in a window, spine has logo of magnifying glass and fingerprint also in red & black; plain end pages; frontis + 3, all on coated paper [early printings had color frontis which duplicates the dust jacket illustration, which is what this book has]. White coated paper dust jacket, pictorial, white with a different 5-1/4" x 4" scene, in colors, for each book, duplicating the frontis of each book; white spine with magnifying glass / fingerprint logo). The exterior has a slight lean, mild general soiling and moderately soiled spine; the four corners are slightly bumped, as is the heel of the spine, all without fabric damage; the head of the spine is bumped with some fabric fraying (see photo). Other than an inked inscription on the FFEP, the book is free of writing, stray marks, stains of any sort and page damage. The jacket has wear but is reasonably clean and essentially intact and without tape: the head and heel of the spine have short closed tears with related folds and the spine is darkened (see photo).

Seller: OldBooksFromTheBasement, Maryland Heights, MO, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. This VG-/VG-, format #2 book per Mattson & Davis (cream colored cloth and all artwork and lettering in black; black & white frontis only, on coated paper. Pictorial dust jacket, different for each book but same as front of format #1 dust jacket [frontis is different from the dust jacket picture], has head & shoulders of Bob Dexter on blue spine and front cover picture different from frontis) is square and reasonably clean, has mildly bumped head and heel of the spine, without fabric damage, no corner bumps or edge dings, but a darkened and spotted top edge of the text. Except for an inked 1929 inscription on the FFEP, the book is free of writing, stray marks, stains of any sort and page damage. Hinges are strong and the paper is quite flexible. And oddly, the frontis is in color, which is a feature reserved for format #1 books! The jacket is complete and essentially intact, with mild wear on the front fold, minor chipping on the front corners and at the heel of the spine, and small chips with related folds at the head of the spine. The spine is very lightly faded.
