The recipient, Charlie Segar, was a baseball writer for the *Brooklyn Citizen*. In the 1920s he was the director of the Baseball Writers' Association. He later served seventeen years as the Secretary-Treasurer of Major League Baseball, mostly under another former sportswriter, Commissioner Ford Frick. A nice association - Segar started his career covering the Dodgers.
