Hardcover in dust jacket. Condition: Very Good. First Edition; First Printing. This book is hard-bound in light blue paper covered boards, with a blue cloth spine, with silver stamping, in a nice dust jacket with light scuffing and light edge-wear. The covers show light edge-wear. The binding is solid. The contents are bright and clean, with illustrations. This book is signed/inscribed by John Updike on the half title-page. From the collection of Cuthbert Christian Thambimuttu (1945-2019) of Columbus, Ohio - known to many of his bookseller, author, and illustrator friends as "Tubby." He was persistent in the pursuit of autographed books by the writers and artists he admired, including Gorey, Sendak, Heaney, Byatt, Morrison, Updike and many more. Joseph Heller once wrote to Tubby in response to one more "please sign and return" request: "This is turning out to be a hell of a lot of work!" All signed books unconditionally guaranteed to be authentic. Many of the books are inscribed to both Cuthbert and his great friend of more than two decades Antonia Gale Moss.

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. Reprint, but the first edition thus, with new illustrations by Trina Schart Hyman. Fine in slightly rubbed else very near fine, first state dustwrapper without the Caldecott Medal sticker. Inscribed by the author: "for dear old Herb. All best, John [Updike]." Herb Yellin was the founder and publisher of Lord John Press and the most frequent of Updike's fine press collaborators. He named his press after noting that the list of authors he wanted to publish all shared the same first name, chief among them John Updike, his favorite. *Hub Fans Bid Kid Adieu* became the press's first book in 1977 with 10 more to follow over the next 23 years. Yellin's friendship with Updike grew with each new limited edition benefitting his already enormous Updike collection, with Updike himself contributing copies of new editions of his books - often inscribed. In a 2010 interview with Yellin he noted that Updike ".liked that if anything ever happened to his own collection, he had my collection on the opposite side of the country." A notable association.
