The book is tight and square with solid hinges and binding and good tips and light wear to spine ends. Publisher speckled remainder spray to bottom fore-edges. The textblock is clean with no writing, bookplate, or markings and not BCE, ex-library, or remaindered. The dust jacket is price-clipped with chipping to extremities and creases to the bottom front panel (see photos). Protected in a new Brodart Mylar cover. 280 Pages. 5½ x 8½" tall. Author's first novel. This is the story of a love-smitten Charles; his friend Sam, the Phi Beta Kappa and former coat salesman; and Charles' mother, who spends a lot of time in the bathtub feeling depressed. For Beattie's characters, much of the concern is that the 1960s are dead. Charles, for example, is a Janis Joplin fan and he mourns her death and the death of other 1960s rock icons, such as Jim Morrison. For now he is stuck in the dull, grey, hopeless 1970s. B. Condition: UNSPECIFIED. Collection of seven vintage studio still photographs from the 1979 film. Based on the 1976 novel by Ann Beattie. Photographs have been hand-retouched, adhered to a backing board, and prepared for use in advertising. A stark portrait depicting the difficulty of life in the aftermath of the turbulent 1960s. The protagonist Charlie (played by John Heard) falls in love with the newly-separated Laura (played by Mary Beth Hurt) who then returns to her husband, while Charlie simultaneously attempts to deal with the various members of his family. Charlie cannot seem to let go of his obsession, and begins to stalk Laura in an attempt to win her back. Shot on location in Salt Lake City, Utah. Released in 1979 as "Head Over Heels" as seen here, it was re-released in 1982 and given a markedly more downbeat ending, to a better audience reception. Photos 8 x 10 inches on 10 x 15 inch mat board with now-toned tissue overlay, save one mat board with two 7 x 5 inch images. Very Good plus to Near Fine.
