His Majesty's Frigate Macedonian was launched at Woolwich in 1810, at the height of the wars against Napoleon. After her capture in 1812, she was recognized as the most important prize ever taken by the American navy. The history of this ship, recommissioned U.S.S. Macedonian after her capture, encompassed the great days of fighting sail, and more specifically, the brief prominence of the frigate as the most useful and perhaps the most dangerous ship in the major navies of the world. What remained of her burned in the Bronx in 1922.

"HMS Macedonian was a 38-gun fifth-rate Lively-class frigate in the Royal Navy, later captured by USS United States during the War of 1812. Macedonian was built at Woolwich Dockyard, England in 1809, launched 2 June 1810, and commissioned the same month. She was commanded by Captain Lord William FitzRoy. Among the original crew was the 13-year-old Samuel Leech, who later wrote a memoir of his experiences. " (from Wikipedia).
