.Please, accept thanks for the copy of your book, Proust, which your publisher has sent me. I only regret that the volume did not contain your autograph inscription presenting it to me. I value your friendshipso highly, and have such a keen appreciation of your humor, that I eagerly pride every evidence of your interest in me.The work itself is indeed a Balzac item ; and I have entered it in its proper place in the manuscript of my supplement to a Balzac Bibliography, where your name, like Abou Ben Adhems "leads all the rest"[poème du poète anglais Leigh Hunt : "voilà le nom de Ben Adhem a conduit tout le reste"] ; and also like his, not only alphabetically, but because you "love your fellow men", - and especially Balzacians, among whom is numbered Your grateful and faithful Colonel Philippe Bridau alias Royce.
