Cloth. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Book Club Associates. Hardback. Tear to bottom edge of spine of D/J. Slight scratch to front D/J. One of the strongest threads in the pattern is the hold of religion on the Scot. Who but a Scottish minister would call the King, to his face, 'God's sillie vassal'? Where but in Scotland would three hundred ministers, refusing subordination to bishops and patrons, leave their churches and lead their parishoners in worship on the bare hillsides? For such a small country, Scotland has an astonishing number of those names that make the music of history: Robert the Bruce and the Young Chevalier, St Columba and John Knox, Bannockburn, Killiecrankie and the dark stain of Glencoe. Rich, too, are the sources of pictes over 200 of them, authentic and contemporary, illustrate the story, and provide, as well, a visual record of Scotland's art, craftsmanship and intellectual life. Illustrated with 231 illustrations and 2 maps. 239 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Academic Literature.).

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Reprint. 239pp. 8vo. large sized. 1974 reprint. Flat signed by the author Fitzroy Maclean to the front endpaper - probably in a blue felt tip pen. The inscription reads: 'For Ann & John from Fitzroy.' Captain John (Mott) and his wife Ann were probably acquaintances of the Maclean's as they were present at Fitzroy's funeral. The text supported by numerous photographic reproductions in b/w. A slight bump to the head of the front board. The jacket has not been price-clipped - it has a short tear to the head of the front panel, which has been expertly repaired. There is a strip of fading to the front panel along the spine and light shelf wear to the rear panel. A very good, clean, tight flat signed copy from the WWII S.A.S. hero who was very much a template for James Bond.
