Alternando commedia acida e teatro dell'assurdo, rendendo omaggio al Salinger del Giovane Holden e al giocoso sarcasmo di Vonnegut, Augusten Burroughs ha scritto un libro poetico e spiazzante, nel quale la commozione e il riso, pià che alternarsi, piombano addosso al lettore assieme, lasciandolo stordito e incantato.
