Paperback. Condition: Very Good. This book examines the work of the late, celebrated television playwright, Dennis Potter. Drawing upon original research, including unpublished scripts, interviews with top film and television practitioners, as well as a rare interview with the writer himself, John Cook reveals the often astonishing array of themes which link together all of Potter's writing: from his early television plays in the 1960s right through to his final works in 1994. In so doing, Cook unravels a series of clues to the writer as rich and as fascinating as any that haunted the character Philip Marlow, in Potter's most celebrated television series, The Singing Detective. This book is intended for students and teachers within the fields of media, literary and cultural studies, and also to the general reader, curious to find out more about Potter's life and career. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. No dust jacket. This is the difficult-to-come-by hardback edition of the biography of. and critical analysis of the works of, Dennis Potter. Author fails to mention (unless I missed it!) that Potter's late 1970s TV drama in six (?) parts, Pennies from Heaven, with Bob Hoskins, was based on the real-life story of Arthur Rouse, a married but philandering travelling salesman, hanged in 1931 for the murder of a man, never identified, who was burned to death in Rouse's Morris Minor in the early hours after Guy Fawkes night 1930 (see seller's book on the Rouse case). Illustrations. 368 pages. Quoted postage for UK 2nd class. Overseas at least £11.65.
