Pamphlet. Condition: Very good. Octavo, 7 3/4 x 4 1/2." pp. [2] 22. Removed from a volume of pamphlets. Neatly trimmed edges. Black bordered title-page, with minor chip to top edge. Title-page slightly wrinkled near stitching. Diagonal crease on bottom corner of last leaf. Lightly browned pages, with minor foxing, typical for age. This is an excellent copy of a text rarely up for sale, last mentioned in a dealer's catalogue in 1930, according to Rare Book Hub. A note on this edition: the ESTC has two records for this text, identical except for the inclusion of a half-title. ESTC W38265 collates as [2], 22 and ESTC W20266 records collates as [4], 22. As a result, it is unclear whether this pamphlet is missing a half-title or if never issued with one. The minister William Waldron (1697-1727) came from a prominent New England family. Typical of second sons, After graduating from Harvard in 1717, he went into the ministry, a career choice rather typical of second sons. He served the Brick Church in Middle Street Boston for five years before perishing at the age of 30. This pamphlet is of interest because of the lengthy discussion it includes of the special place of ministers in society, as seen in early America. (Source: Family Trees by François Weil).
