First Edition
Hard Cover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First Edition. True First Editions of Suzuki's famous Essays in Zen, complete in three volumes. Published in London by Luzac and Company for The Eastern Buddhist Society, Kyoto, Japan, 1927, 1933, 1934. Bound in the publisher's original cloth ruled in blind with spines lettered in gilt. Second Series and Third Series in the very rare dust jackets. Suzuki was the first great scholar-interpreter of the East to the West and is generally credited as virtually single-handedly bringing the message of Zen, and Buddhism in general, to a Western audience. His epoch making books sparked a radical change in Western ways of thinking and his historical importance cannot be overstated. First Series is very good with a small discreet gift note on the blank front flyleaf. Second Series is fine with a "Just Out" four page brochure from the publisher loosely laid in with a very good dust jacket in mylar cover. Third Series is near fine in a very good dust jacket with small water stain on front and some edge chipping, now in a protective mylar cover. See all photos.
