All page edges untrimmed. From the Library of Peter Anthony Lanyon-Orggil, his illustrated Bookplate is on the endpaper. Some edge wear and 12 of the brown paper missing from top of spine. No inscriptions. Text in very good, clean condition.

Tall 8vo, pp. [4], 4, [v]-[xliv], 122; engraved vignette title-p. printed in red and black, original cream paper-covered boards, morocco label on spine, bottom of spine perished and top of spine chipped, front hinge cracked, otherwise a good copy, mostly unopened. This is one of 100 copies for members only, this one belonging to Lord Francis Egerton, M.P., the First Earl of Ellesmere (see DNB) with his name printed in red, as issued, on the verso of the half-title. The preface of this edition of Gildas, the earliest historian of Britain, is in English, the text proper in Latin. DNB singles out this edition out as being one of the two best. The text of Guldas was first printed in 1525 and has been many times reprinted. The first edition in English appeared in 1638.
