In beautiful condition purchased directly from the publisher by Parrish Books. Ray Bradbury, best known for his modern masterpiece "Fahrenheit 451," was a prolific author whose literary legacy comprises a library of works. His creative genius extended beyond books, earning him an Oscar nomination for the animated film "Icarus Montgolfier Wright" and an Emmy for the teleplay of "The Halloween Tree." Bradbury played a significant role in television through "Ray Bradbury Theater," where he adapted over 60 of his short stories for the program. His influence reached diverse realms, including collaboration with Disney World on the Spaceship Earth Display and contributing to "Orbiton" at Euro-Disney in France. Bradbury's passion for writing traced back to two pivotal events in 1932: watching the silent film adaptation of "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and a mesmerizing stage performance by "Mr. Electrico" at the Dill Brothers Combined Shows carnival. Reflecting on the latter experience, Bradbury mused about running towards life and away from death. He was a voracious reader, enjoying everything from Arthur C. Clarke, H.G. Wells, Edgar Allen Poe, as well as Walt Whitman. Ray Bradbury's title "I Sing the Body Electric" comes from Whitman's "Leaves of Grass." Dust jacket is in Fine/As New condition and protected in an archival cover Limited Special Edition signed and numbered.

Hardcover. Condition: New. Limited Edition. VERY FINE. Sealed without any flaws. Personally signed by Ray Bradbury, important for his incomparable contributions to American fiction as one of its great storytellers who, through his explorations of science and space, has illuminated the human condition. SIGNED LIMITED EDITION. VERY LOW NUMBER 20 OF ONLY 750 PRODUCED. Gauntlet Publications 2006. Ray Bradbury. "Match To Flame" Signed Limited Edition. Number 20 of 750. Wooden slipcase. Hardcover in dust jacket. Edited by Don Albright. Book and jacket design by Michelle Nahum-Albright. Very Fine and sealed without any flaws. Ray Bradbury didn't sit down one day and decide to write his classic novel Fahrenheit-451. As with Something Wicked This Way Comes, Bradbury's tale of censorship had its roots years earlier in at least 9 short stories or novellas. While published in 1953 the genesis of F-451 can be traced back to 1944. Over the next several years Bradbury tinkered with the idea in a number of short stories, a few that have been collected a number of times, some that appeared just once and others that have remained unpublished.Until now. Match to Flame: The Fictional Paths to Fahrenheit-451 traces the roots of F-451 in Bradbury's earlier fiction. Edited by Donn Albright, the book is a must for those who have marveled at F-451. The centerpiece of the book, is of course, "The Fireman" a novella published in Galaxy #51 (1951). Signed by Bradbury, this is bound to become one of his classics both for scholars looking into the history of F-451, collectors interested in obscure and unpublished Bradbury material that will not see publication anywhere else, and readers of great fiction. The Lettered edition, as always, will contain a wealth of additional material including the previously unpublished short story "The Castle.". Signed by Author(s).

FROM THE PUBLISHER This year marks the Centennial of Ray Bradbury s birth, and to celebrate the life and work of this beloved and visionary author, Suntup Editions is delighted to announce a fine press limited edition of Fahrenheit 451. Highly regarded as Ray Bradbury s masterpiece, Fahrenheit 451 depicts a dystopian society in which all books are outlawed and burned. The novel follows the personal evolution and journey of Guy Montag, from a fireman for whom it is a pleasure to burn books, to a man disillusioned with the censoring of knowledge and dedicated to the preservation of literature. In a 1956 interview, Bradbury said, I wrote this book at a time when I was worried about the way things were going in this country four years ago. Too many people were afraid of their shadows; there was a threat of book burning. Many of the books were being taken off the shelves at that time. Bradbury has also described the book as a commentary on resistance to conformity, and how mass media can create a lack of interest in reading literature. Though considered one of the greatest science-fiction novels of all time, much of Fahrenheit 451 has become science-fact. The novel predicted earbud headphones, flatscreen televisions, and 24-hour banking machines. In 1954, Fahrenheit 451 won the American Academy of Arts and Letters Award in Literature and the Commonwealth Club of California Gold Medal. It later won the Prometheus Hall of Fame Award in 1984, and a Retro Hugo Award in 2004, one of only seven Best Novel Retro Hugo Awards ever given. The fine press limited edition of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is presented in three states: Lettered, Numbered and Artist Gift editions. Signed by Illustrator(s).

A beautiful production from The Limited Editions Club of Bradbury's classic, elegantly printed, and illustrated by Mugnaini with one original color lithograph and three color plates. Bound in aluminum-like boards by Robert A. Burlen & Sons. Ray Bradbury's internationally acclaimed novel Fahrenheit 451 is a masterwork of twentieth-century literature set in a bleak, dystopian future. Guy Montag is a fireman. In his world, where television rules and literature is on the brink of extinction, firemen start fires rather than put them out. His job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, along with the houses in which they are hidden. Montag never questions the destruction and ruin his actions produce, returning each day to his bland life and wife, Mildred, who spends all day with her television "family." But then he meets an eccentric young neighbor, Clarisse, who introduces him to a past where people didn't live in fear and to a present where one sees the world through the ideas in books instead of the mindless chatter of television. When Mildred attempts suicide and Clarisse suddenly disappears, Montag begins to question everything he has ever known. He starts hiding books in his home, and when his pilfering is discovered, the fireman has to run for his life. Fahrenheit 451 Fahrenheit 451 is a 1953 dystopian novel by American writer Ray Bradbury. It presents a future American society where books have been outlawed and "firemen" burn any that are found. The novel follows in the viewpoint of Guy Montag, a fireman who soon becomes disillusioned with his role of censoring literature and destroying knowledge, eventually quitting his job and committing himself to the preservation of literary and cultural writings. Fahrenheit 451 was written by Bradbury during the Second Red Scare and the McCarthy era, inspired by the book burnings in Nazi Germany and by ideological repression in the Soviet Union. Bradbury's claimed motivation for writing the novel has changed multiple times. In a 1956 radio interview, Bradbury said that he wrote the book because of his concerns about the threat of burning books in the United States. In later years, he described the book as a commentary on how mass media reduces interest in reading literature. In a 1994 interview, Bradbury cited political correctness as an allegory for the censorship in the book, calling it "the real enemy these days" and labeling it as "thought control and freedom of speech control.". The pamphlet is accompanied with a COA from the original seller which includes a printed photograph of the seller and Ray Bradbury together at the signing. **RARE ONE SHEET POSTER** - A rare French folded one sheet b&w film poster, 30 x 46 inches, featuring the image of Francois Truffaut and Julie Christie, and boldly displaying the name of Ray Bradbury, and even the cinematographer, Nicolas Roeg. I have never seen another copy of this particular poster. **PHILIPPE HALSMAN PHOTOGRAPH** An original b&w photograph by PHILIPPE HALSMAN of Francois Truffaut directing Julie Christie and Oskar Werner in a Fahrenheit 451 scene. The photograph has Philippe Halsman's copyright stamp on the backside. **U.S. PREMIERE INVITATION** - Announcement for the U.S. Premiere of FAHRENHEIT 451 that took place at the PLAZA THEATRE on Sunday, November 13th, 1966, the day before the film was released theatrically in the U.S. The Premiere was hosted by "The National Book Committee", "The American Book Publishers Council", and "Universal Pictures". Single-fold sheet to make 4 pages, covers printed in red and yellow, inner pages printed in red on a cream-colored background. **11 PHOTOGRAPHS from Fahrenheit 451 w/ STUDIO STAMPS & INFO** - Eleven Original 8x10 b&w photographs from the film Fahrenheit 451, each with stamped and/or typed studio publicity and copyright information on the backsides, One image is a duplicate (the only duplicate in this archive) BUT the info on the backsides is different - one has Universal Studios stamped info and copyright info on the backside and the other has a variety of Mexican and Argentinian Stamps. **3 PHOTOGRAPHS from Fahrenheit 451** - Three 8x10 photographs from the film Fahrenheit 451, two in b&w, one in color. Great photo of Truffaut talking up close with Julie Christie, a lovely color photo of Christie, and a photo of Oskar Werner. **COLOR FRENCH LOBBY CARD** - Color Lobby Card, 9.25x11.5 inches (23x29 cm), featuring Julie Christie from the film. Quite unusual. The backside is stamped "Universal Film, Inc. / 33 Champs-Elysees, Paris". **7 PHOTOGRAPHS of JULIE CHRISTIE** - Seven 8x10 b&w photographs of Julie Christie, most of her in various films other than Fahrenheit 451. Some have her name written on the backside (not her signature), a couple with a bit of information about the photo including the photographer's name. Included are film stills from Petulia and Demon Seed. Also included is a photo of Christie at home with her landlady. This photograph is accompanied with a handwritten note from the photo's previous owner that says he believes the photograph was made from an original negative. **PINEWOOD STUDIOS PROMO for FAHRENHEIT 451** - A single 8.5x11 inch flyer promoting Fahrenheit 451. CONDITION: Everything is generally in VERY GOOD condition, just mildly used - the photos are solid and bright, the signatures of Bradbury and Christie are bold, the Pinewood Studios promo sheet is folded else sharp and presentable, the rare one-sheet film poster has folds as normal but is brilliant. With the unusual FILM POSTER, the SIGNED BRADBURY Film Release Pamphlet, the SIGNED JULIE CHRISTIE Film Flyer, the LOBBY CARD, the HALSMAN photograph, the 21 8x10 photographs, and more, this is quite a UNIQUE and RARE gathering. Some items I have never seen before. THE ORIGINAL COLLECTOR S NOTES ARE INCLUDED.  PINEAPPLE NOT INCLUDED The Limited Editions Club of New York was started in 1929 by George Macy. At 29-years-old, he was an avid reader who wanted to make his living from books. His business revolved around publishing beautifully illustrated classic titles in relatively small quantities with club members paying a subscription. Today, the Limited Editions Club (LEC) is an important part of the rare book business and the books are adored by collectors. From 1929 to 1985, the Limited Editions Club published 548 titles. George passed away in 1956 but his widow, Helen, ran the company until the early 1970s when she retired and sold to Boise Cascade who sold the firm again in 1978. The Limited Editions Club is famous for original illustrations by the best book illustrators and artists. Between 1929 and 1985, 10 to 12 titles featuring 1,500 numbered copies each were published annually although the print run expanded to 2,000 numbered copies in later years. Each title was unique, using special papers, special cover material including many in leather, almost all came in a slipcase or clamshell box, many of the titles were already regarded as classics and produced by private small presses throughout the world, almost all were signed by either the illustrator, author, publisher or designer. Sometimes three signatures can be found on the colophon page. During the depression years, many of the world s greatest artists struggled to find regular work and a large number were employed by Macy. ABOUT THE BOOK: Guy Montag is a fireman. His job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, along with the houses in which they are hidden. Montag never questions the destruction and ruin his actions produce, returning each day to his bland life and wife, Mildred, who spends all day with her television family. But when he meets an eccentric young neighbor, Clarisse, who introduces him to a past where people didn t live in fear and to a present where one sees the world through the ideas in books instead of the mindless chatter of television, Montag begins to question everything he has ever known.
