Page 80 of this 155 page collection speaks of the introduction, in 1873, of barbed wire fencing to Western Canada farmers. The commentary/commentator on page 18, was seemingly unaware of the stone construction outside of Smiley, Saskatchewan. READ more about : Dundas Street Toll House, pathway, Button's Tavern, Meeting-House, livestock, electric, snow fence, bull-nay order, wooden picket, and six rail snake. All fence types are shown in b/w illustration by C.W. Jefferys. Cond : Light green boards with black titling at spine. White end-papers. Reddy-orange dust jacket with white lettering . Colour frontispiece matches the d.j. illustration. They feature a fence of up-turned tree roots. Volume is tight, bright, square, and clean. 1958 signature of p/o on ffep. D.J .is rubbed with piece missing at upper spine - now protected in mylar. Minimal toning and soiling. Excellent reference copy. QUote (p. xxxv) : " The second condition, by far the most desirable for the strength and permanence of the gate, is the hardest of fulfilment.
